Business Travel and Relocation: Leased Apartment or Serviced Apartment?

If you are a business traveler, temporarily staying in a new location to work with a company, then you may be having some difficulty deciding what kind of accommodations to look for. A hotel room for an extended stay is almost certainly too expensive. Your options are likely limited to leasing an apartment, or renting a serviced apartment.

One may be in the same position if they are planning to relocate their family to a new area, but have not yet found a permanent residence. In both cases, serviced apartments may be the solution.

• What are serviced apartments?

Serviced apartments can be divided into two categories, extended stay hotels and corporate housing. Both are utilized most often by business men and leisure travelers, but are also used more commonly now by relocating families.

Serviced apartments are unlike leased apartments, which often are unfurnished and offer a minimum of amenities (if any) unless one is willing to pay considerably more. Serviced apartments often include a full kitchenette and may have as many as five bedrooms, a living room, in-room laundry, and other deluxe amenities.

Extended stay hotels feature a 24-hour reception desk, though may lack the common first floor fixtures of a hotel you might visit on holiday, such as restaurants or bars. If the serviced apartment in which you are residing is part of a fine hotel, you shall often be given access to the same on-premises amenities offered to any of the hotel’s guests.

Corporate housing is similar to the extended stay hotel, but is usually targeted directly at business travelers, and is sometimes provided by a company for visiting temporary employees. Corporate serviced apartments are usually found nearer business and city centres, for the convenience of the traveling business person.

Both styles of serviced apartment are always fully furnished, and have a regular cleaning service to maintain the accommodations.

• How are serviced apartments different from leased apartments?

Serviced apartments rarely require a binding, long term agreement. Some may not be rented unless one is planning on staying longer than 30 days, however. As above, serviced apartments are also fully furnished and generally located for the convenience of the residents.

The issue of the leased apartment is just that—the lease. One may find oneself legally entangled in an apartment that doesn’t suit one’s needs, or for a much longer period of time than is needed. This is not just an inconvenience, but can be problematic for the relocating family. Leased apartments are also generally unfinished, and one may have trouble finding an open apartment in a convenient area.

If you know you are staying in a place for longer than a year, and you need a place to deposit your belongings, than the leased apartment may be a better choice.

• How do I book a serviced apartment?

There are a number of qualified agencies throughout the UK which specialize in finding serviced apartments tailored to the business person or the relocating family and can assist one in finding and booking serviced apartments.

I write articles on various topics including office cubicles, web hosting resources, online marketing tips, dentures, dental implants, goji juice benefits and other health-related tips. Other topics I'm interested in (and occasionally write about) include lawn care, volleyball, swimming, amusement/water parks, gardening, sewing, baking, camping, running, biking and other outdoor sports. One of my favorite topics is providing resources about web hosting, ecommerce and domain name companies - news, tips & coupons such as GoDaddy or Yahoo store promo codes.

I enjoy watching a bit of TV - COPS, DEA, SWAT, The Beverly Hillbillies, The Andy Griffith Show, NCIS, NCIS LA, The Big Valley, The Young Riders, Just For Laughs (the clean ones!), America's Funniest Home Videos (AFV) and California Highway Patrol. Older/classic TV is my favorite. :)  I also love to travel, having recently discovered serviced apartments in the UK.

Safe computer recycling is getting more crucial.  Have you taken care of your data, using data destruction services from Sims Recycling Solutions? I think all businesses that deal with hazardous materials should have tipping skips.

Office cubicles are good for businesses to have, as having cubicles can help organize your office. They can give you some privacy, but still allow you to interact with your co-workers.

Travel and Telecom are pretty broad categories. I develop and design websites and I could help but not without a lot more information on what niche's your targeting. For example are you trying to just target people in and around Chicago or the whole United States.
