What is a Dental Implant?
Are you considering expanding your career by taking dental implant training? Here is a brief overview about the different types you may be working with in your education.
Endosteal
Implants
The
most common type of dental implants are endosteal implants. These
implants generally are screws, but can also be cylinders or blades,
implanted into the patient’s jawbone. Each implant can support one
or more replacement teeth. These “root form” implants are
designed to be similar in shape to an actual tooth root and to
promote good attachment to the patient’s bone. This type of
implant is used in patients with jawbones that are sufficiently wide
and deep to support them or in situations in which a bone graft has
been done to enhance the area of the jaw bone where the implant will
be placed.
Dental
implants require several surgical procedures. After applying
anesthesia, the dental professional will expose the jaw bone and
prepare it for one or more implants. Prior to implanting the screw,
the dental professional will drill a small pilot hole at the site in
the jaw where each tooth is missing. Each pilot hole is then
gradually widened to allow the implantation of the screw. Once the
screw has been put in place, the gum tissue is once again secured
over the implant and a cover screw is put in place to protect the
area and to encourage healing and bone growth. The bone growth that
occurs in and around the implant is called osseointegration. It can
take from three months to more than six months to occur.
After
sufficient healing has occurred, another procedure is necessary
during which the dental professional will uncover the implant and
attach an abutment which holds a temporary prosthetic tooth or crown.
The temporary crown allows the gum to grow naturally, and is
eventually replaced with a permanent crown.
Subperiosteal
Implants
In cases in which a patient’s jaw bone does not have enough width
or height to tolerate an implant in the bone, a subperiosteal implant
may be recommended. This type of implant is placed on top of the
bone, but underneath the gum. Some dental professionals use a dual
surgery method, in which the jawbone is surgically exposed to make an
impression for a custom implant that will later be placed in a second
procedure. Alternatively, dental professionals can perform a CAT
scan of the jawbone, which is used to make model of the jawbone.
After the laboratory creates the custom implant based upon the model,
the dental professional then surgically exposes the jawbone and
places the implant.

Office cubicles are good for businesses to have, as having cubicles can help organize your office. They can give you some privacy, but still allow you to interact with your co-workers.
