Custom Inflatable Colons Take the Scary Out of Screenings

Guest post by: Stephanie Meacham

Article Overview: There are certain things the vast majority of the population is extremely uncomfortable talking about. Included on that short list are changing their diets, their in-laws coming to visit and cancer. (The in-laws are probably the most intimidating of the three!) In order to converse with people about these and other awkward topics, you have to navigate around the emotional brick wall. Do you work for a gastroenterology practice, health product provider or cause marketing agency? If so, you’re no doubt constantly on the lookout for ways to communicate with people about colon cancer and screenings in a nonthreatening manner that is also fun, educational and maybe a bit entertaining as well.

Custom Inflatable Colons Take the Scary Out of Screenings

There are certain things the vast majority of the population is extremely uncomfortable talking about.

Enter the Giant Colon! (Yes, You Heard Me Right.)

Do you remember the 1987 movie Innerspace starring Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan? During the film, Quaid is shrunken and then injected into other people’s bodies where he tours every inch via a microscopic shuttle. The heart, intestines, lungs, stomach… everywhere. The audience is captivated by this inside look at the human makeup instead of disgusted because it’s a dramatic comedy film. The humor lightens what would otherwise be a very serious subject. The end result is just super.

Colon inflatables work much the same way. They are animated (in a sense) and pique the curiosity of passersby because they are also colossal. They grab attention from a great distance away and start a conversation that naturally leads people to your location. With this combination of features, a giant colon offers real people the chance to tour the inside of this organ, be educated about the dangers of colon cancer and learn the benefits of screenings minus any anxiety.

March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, but, as a medical or marketing professional, you understand the importance of year-round promotions. So how precisely do you use an inflatable colon for maximum impact? Glad you asked.

Inflatable Colons in Action

Buying a custom inflatable colon is often less expensive than a rental, meaning you can get exactly the look and size you want, rather than having to sacrifice based on the rental company’s inventory. If you plan to use your inflatable on a regular or even semi-regular basis, buying is the way to go.

Although giant colons are… well, giant… they come deflated and packed neatly in easy-to-carry bags. Because they take only minutes to set up and deflate, you can be in business in short order.

Where would you use such a thing? Here are just a few ideas:

> Outside your office for an open house

> Health fairs

> Home shows

> Races

> Street festivals

Anywhere there are adults.

Attracting People and the Press

What’s especially super about the colon is that its magic works on the press equally as effectively as it does on people. The media coverage you’re likely to receive can go a long way toward raising donations for a cause, increasing education about the benefits of screenings and promoting your organization.

Once you remove the obstacles that prevent folks from hearing your message, you pave the way for countless individuals to receive screenings that fear may have otherwise kept them from getting. By taking the "scary" out of this procedure, untold lives can be saved… all thanks to a giant, pink inflatable tunnel.

How to dress for success? How to dress for success? -
Actually you are seeing more and more people wear a suit, tie and shirt today then you did at the beginning of the decade. Being in the fashion industry there is a huge trend towards men who don't have to wear suits for work doing so because they like the upgrade in appearance it gives them. A previous poster had mentioned that a suit and tie made him look older, I would say that a man in a well tailored suit, shirt, and tie looks many times more sharp than one in traditional business casual wares.[/quote:i6wwaxb1] Hi Sprezzatura Custom, Since you're in the fashion industry, are there any specific brands/designers you'd recommend for suits, ties, dress shoes and shirts? Thanks

Re: Business attire Re: Business attire -
Having sold the majority of these brands during my career in retail that is my list. I list fit as the #1 criterion, with quality of construction/materials #2, and brand recognition/cachet of owning it #3. Because at the end of the day when it comes to mens tailored clothing if it does not fit right; accentuating your strengths and hiding your weaknesses to give a smart and sharp look than all the quality and brand recognition in the world cannot help you.[/quote:3angxu5q] I fully agree with Sprezzatura Custom, but the problem for me is that the majority of dress shirts have a "classic fit", i.e. too much room in the chest/body and I'm tall/skinny. So shirts that are small/have small neck sizes will have short sleeves/body lengths... while larger ones will be too baggy and unflattering. At the moment, I'll shop at places like Banana Republic, Mexx and Club Monaco for "slim fit" casual shirts in size small or extra small (but their dress shirts are still too short in body length for me, i.e. to tuck into my pants). Any ideas for this?

Re: Job titles Re: Job titles - Hi Sprezzatura Custom, Do you simply introduce yourself as a "proprietor" at networking/social events or do you also print that job title on your business cards, etc? And can I ask how people react when hearing that title?
