Building Back links: 3 Important Things to Consider Before you Even Start

Back links are links from other websites that points to yours. They play a very important role in the ranking of websites by search engines. If you know a little history about Google, you'll recall that Google emerged from smart back link calculation. The two founders were able to crank out an algorithm that rank websites base of the number of back links they have. Up to present day it is clear that back links still play an important role in the way websites are rank. Attracting traffic to your site is all about building back links from other websites to yours. This is the key to getting traffic. Back links will not only improve your search engine ranking and Google page rank, they will also send traffic from other sites to yours.

In this article, it is assume that you've already gotten a niche market and a list of keywords you'll be targeting. That is only when you can start thinking of building back links.

To improve the effectiveness of your back links, there are 3 factors you should always have in mind and do them right. These factors are discussed below.

1. Anchor Text of Back Links

Anchor text of your back links are simply those link texts that you or other sites use while linking to your site. They are texts which you can click to visit another website or another webpage within the same site.

Always mine Your Anchor Text! Make sure that you use your keywords in the anchor texts of your back links. This is because the anchor texts of your back links help search engines to understand what your site is all about. By using your keywords in your anchor texts, you're simply telling Google that your site is relevant to that keyword and Google will rank you higher for that keyword.

Another thing you should do while building back links to your site is to diversify the anchor text of your back links. It is going to look very suspicious to Google that all the links pointing to site A have the same anchor text. A good practice is to optimize different pages in your site with different keywords.

2. Page Rank

The page rank of a webpage is one of the means Google use to determine how important a page is. The page rank is just a number that range from 1 to 10. The higher the page rank of a page the higher will be its position in SERP (search engine result page) for the keywords that page is optimized for. If a page with a high page rank optimizes its content for a particular keyword, it will rank higher than another page with a lower page rank which is also optimized for the same keyword.

For an effective link building campaign, build your back links from pages with high page rank rather than from pages with lower page rank. Doing so will give you an edge over your competitors. But there is nothing wrong with getting a number of links from low page rank pages. In fact it is good to go for a variety of page ranks.

3. Source of backlinks

Your backlinks should come from a variety of sources. Place your backlinks on different sites, including sites with .edu and .gov extension.

Your back links should also come from different C-class IP addresses. The reason for these is that you have to create diversity in your link building campaign so that search engines won't feel that they're being manipulated.

These 3 important factors will greatly affect your search engine ranking. Doing them the right way will definitely improve your search engine ranking.

Re: How to do Link Building? Re: How to do Link Building? - Link Building... Time-intensive. Frustrating. Sometimes confusing. Yet Unavoidable. Because ultimately, it's still the trump card for higher rankings. What happens to all those Wavers that think [i:1otfkny0]Getting Links = SEO[/i:1otfkny0] when that majority of the Google algo is devalued in various ways? Wavers built their fortunes on "links=seo". When that goes away, the Wavers have zero to hold on to. What will happen to the way search algorithms score links is already happening. The Google algo has become much more elegant and advanced, devaluing staggering amount of links that shouldn't count, and placing more emphasis on trusted links. And the trust and juice given by those links is then verified by elements like user data, domain age, and other relatively hard-to-spoof factors. toddbeld
Re: What works for you? Re: What works for you? - Hi Yinka, I work better under pressure of deadlines when I am doing something for other people. However, I like to have the leisure to develop my own projects. The first case is what Stephen Covey calls a "Quadrant 1" activity ("Important and urgent") whereas the second case is a "Quadrant 2" activity ("Important, not urgent"). We should aim to make as much time as possible for Q2 activities so that we can develop our own projects. Easier said than done!
Type of business with building Type of business with building - If you owned a building and Wal-Mart was opening its doors across the street in a previously unoccupied area (along with 12-14 small shops), what type of business would you start? Here are the considerations: 1. Money is a non-factor 2. Building is fairly large (10,000) square feet 3. Building is on the corner of a busy intersection (about to get much busier)

Re: Anyone know a reputable link building company? Re: Anyone know a reputable link building company? - Before paying for link builders, make sure your website *is* SEOed. Then you can go with link builders. Keep in mind that some good quality 100 links can do much more than 10000 low quality links. How to tell what's a good link: -The content is related to the content on your site. -The source website is an old website. -The website has many quality incoming links. -The linking page has PR. -The linking page doesn't have 100's of links out. Bad links have: -No PR -100s of links out -No related content -** The linking page has the word "link or links" in it. -No traffic. -Is not ranked. I rather link build myself than pay $5000 for some guys in india that get terrible quality links. Always ask for links reports.
