Nearly every great business started out as a result of a nagging or annoying problem. Profitable business ideas are all around you...but they disguise themselves in the form of problems.
Recently, I came across a website that awards $25,000 to people with the best business ideas. Some of the ideas are quite interesting.
If you read on to the end of this newsletter, I'll share with you the website name.
Would you like to read about four business ideas that won each person $25,000? Here they are...
Business Idea # 1 - "The All-In-One Credit Card"
PROBLEM:
In today's world it's common for people to carry multiple cards. Typically credit cards, debit cards and Drivers' licenses. All of theses different cards can get to be cumbersome.
SOLUTION:
What if all cards and identification could be put into just one universal card? Think how convenient that would be! Such an innovative idea! This one card the size of a regular credit card would have access to whatever types of accounts an individual had.
For example say a person had a discover account, a visa account, a Macy's account, a debit card, and a license all-accessible through one card. When making a purchase the card would be swiped/scanned and the option would come up for how to pay.
Then the corresponding account that the person would like to use would be selected. Besides being convenient, this would also offer added security because the person's picture would be on the card, possibly even a fingerprint.
If the card was lost or stolen then it would only need to be reported by contacting one number. I have thought about the fact that most credit cards like having their name or logo on their card for marketing purposes.
A solution to this could be to let the person select which logo or bank name that they want to appear on their card. Perhaps banks or stores would offer rewards programs to have their logo on the card. I feel this is going to happen eventually, so why not sooner then later?

Business Idea # 2 - "Medical Supplies Carrying Case"
PROBLEM:
In November 2002, my 8-year-old son was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. This life altering disease forces him to be responsible for a large number of supplies & medication which he must carry with him at all times.
I went online to find a carrying case for his supplies and found that there are no medical supply companies that provide insulin carrying cases with a fun theme for children.
SOLUTION:
This motivated me to create my KidzPak. It's a fun, colorful pack in which kids can carry all their Diabetes medication.

Business Idea # 3 - "Plant Transplanting Made Easy"
PROBLEM:
For all houseplant enthusiasts, when you have a favorite plant that is wilting and sickly, you know it's time for transplanting. This is typically a 20-30 minute process and can be very messy.
Many times the plant goes into shock and dies. With my system, you can take this aggravating task and turn it into a 5-minute, no mess, 1-2-3 process. The process is simple once you start using it.
SOLUTION:
Using my series of pots and liners, any time you need to transplant or, just for decorative purposes, change colors of your pot, you simply grab hold of the liner, pull it out of one pot, and bury it in the next, leaving the plant in the liner.
The liner is designed to hold the dirt in, but being a basket type liner, the roots will grow through it into the next sized pot. You just put dirt in the bottom of the new pot and then take the plant out of the smaller pot.
Then, leaving the liner on it, you place the plant in the next sized pot and fill in the sides with dirt. The plant never knows its been moved, and therefore will not go into shock. You can now turn this 20-minute
messy project into a 5 minute, no mess task. There will be a wide variety of sizes and colors to fit any decor.

Business Idea # 4 - "The Automatic Toothbrush"
PROBLEM:
If you have kids you've probably had "toothpaste problems." What I mean is that you've probably found toothpaste, on the carpet, in the kitchen, and on the bedroom walls.
Or have you just been in a hurry and squeezed a big gob of toothpaste onto your toothbrush on accident.
SOLUTION:
This idea is for a toothbrush that contains toothpaste in the handle and allows you to turn a knob located at the bottom of the handle which will allow the toothpaste to flow through the bristles.
A perfect amount of toothpaste would be administered through each turn/click of the knob. This would help eliminate wasted toothpaste which in turn could be a cost savings to consumer.
This compact, one-step process would be especially helpful for children learning to brush, and would be time efficient for users.
Idea could be pitched to oral care companies who make toothbrushes and toothpaste; this would allow the consumer to choose which type of toothbrush head and toothpaste according to their preference.

Final Thought...
Business ideas are a dime a dozen. If I had a dollar for every call I got from someone who had a "fantastic" business idea, I'd be able to shelter all the homeless in Houston, TX.
For example, I just got a call the other day from someone wanting marketing advice for his "new business idea."
I asked him what the new business was. He replied that it was selling unique information...but he couldn't tell me anymore about it because it was "proprietary."
Plleeeeeaaase!
Give me a break.
Like I've got time (or the desire) to steal his business idea.
Anyway, at that point, I just wanted to hang up...but I didn't. I shared some thoughts with him and wished him luck.
Without ACTION...even the BEST business idea is just that...an "idea." Nothing more.
So if you have an idea...isn't it time you did something about it?
