Ruts have a bad name. Which is unfortunate, because they're useful.
A rut is a habitual routine. So, just as there are good and bad habits there are good and bad ruts.
You're in a lot of good ruts such as getting up ever a.m., brushing your teeth, breakfasting, driving to work, etc..
Why?
Because they simplify your life. Ruts keep you on track (a a track is just an upside-down rut), freeing your mind to focus on other things.
Ruts are not difficult to make. All they need is repetition. Cows walking the same path across a field soon make a rut.
You can do the same. Turn a process that you force yourself to do when you think about it into a routine. Repeat that routine every day for a month, and you've created a rut.
For example, prospecting. Spend the first half-hour you're in the office prospecting. Do it every day. Make a rut.
Don't know where to start?
Read about prospecting. Make notes on what's useful. Focus on finding prospects in the first half-hour every day.
Do this for a month, and it becomes a prospecting rut. And soon your prospecting rut will become a prospecting glut!
