"Life is a highly contagious, incurable disease with a 100% mortality rate."
Don't know where it came from, but on first reading it I thought what a powerful statement it was.
It also reminded me of another powerful phrase I'd use when a prospect would ask me "What's my mortality rate?" I knew that he was really asking for the probability of death at his age, but I'd always answer "One hundred percent. It's 100% for all of us. We just don't know when."
Knowing this, that death is inevitable, you'd expect people would be lining up to buy permanent life insurance which is guaranteed to pay off no matter when they die.
But, as we all know, they're not.
Probably because most of us are in denial about death. Which is why we so often preface our comments about it with "If I should die..” or "If anything happens to me.."
As if it might never happen.
Which is also why we who arrange life insurance need to use such phrases as "mortality is 100% per person" to help our clients realize that we are dealing with an event that is inevitable, and not merely a possibility.
It's a "when", not an "if"! (Unlike other insurance)
