Wake Yourself Up
Wake Yourself Up
Or do you work as hard as you can, but seem stuck in the same position? Is your ten years in the business just one year repeated ten times?
If so, wake up your system.
Prevention Magazine says "If you want to change your body for the better, change your workout. Often. Vary your exercises, and the order in which you do them,...and your muscles will thank you with increased strength and shape."
In short, your body needs the challenge of change to keep it trim. This applies to more than just exercise. It affects everything you do!
Unthinking repetition of things you've always done (even though they once worked) is not only boring, it doesn't get you anywhere. When old methods no longer work you must change the methods, or the way you do them to get results.
If you can't change the way you do some things, change the time you do them. If you check your email first when you arrive at your office, for example, postpone it until later. Then do something else (make appointments?) for that morning time-slot you just freed up.
If you usually go out for lunch with the guys, do something else instead. Take a picnic lunch, or buy a sandwich, go for a walk in the park, and eat it there. Or go to the Y for a swim. Or a gym for a work-out. Just change what you usually do to add some variety, and make things more interesting.
Parkinson's Law, "Work expands to fill the time available", can also help you change things. Set time limits on each of the various things you have to do. And stop at the end of the specified time. You'll learn to do more in less time.
Or slow down on things you usually charge at. Don't eat so fast, for example. Or take a rest for 10 minutes each hour.
Force yourself to prioritize. List all the things you must do tomorrow. Number them in order of importance. Then do them by the numbers. If you don't complete them all, don't worry because you'll know you've done the most important ones.
There are lots of other things you can change, and you know what most of them are without me telling you. Pick just one, and do it.
If you aren't motivated to change, fake it. Act as if you're motivated, and do it. Don't think up reasons why not to do it, or decide against change because it's too much work.
Just do it.
