Employees can go to the managers, managers can go to the directors and directors can go to their CEO, but who do CEOs, owners and presidents turn to for advice and guidance? The answer is CEO Peer Groups and if you are living in Toronto you have plenty of options to choose from to share your corporate trials and tribulations in a confidential, comfortable, supportive environment surrounded by those of similar standing and experience. There can be a great deal of pressure that CEOs face alone on a daily basis. Running a company is much like a course on un-chartered territory. Or is it? While every situation is different, when a group of CEOs join forces to discuss issues such as sales, marketing, human resources, asset management, quality control and more, a lot of similar situations crop up and similar solutions can be shared. That is just one of the great benefits that Toronto CEO Peer Groups offer their members - the ability to share best practices and resolve issues through the past experiences of other CEOs. So how do you choose an effective CEO Peer Group in Toronto? There are many important factors to consider. The first is ensure that the director of the group is cognizant of each member's expertise and is grouping the members in a way that is non-competitive and advantageous. For example, a CEO with expertise in the high tech industry would not want to divulge any information if another CEO from a similar field was in attendance. Instead add that CEO to a group with experts in accounting, sales, human resources and marketing, and each individual will be able to help the group learn more about areas that they need assistance. To find the better CEO Peer Groups Toronto, you also want to ensure there is a strategic element to the discussions. Is the group just sharing daily, “putting out the fires” type problems, or is the conversation centred around strategic, longer term solutions to growing your business. Stay away from Toronto CEO Peer Groups that have too many members. Ten members is the maximum recommended to ensure there is enough time for each member to discuss their personal situation and gain advice from the group. Also avoid peer groups that don't have a follow up or accountability to decisions made in the meetings. Make sure the members have an opportunity to set weekly or monthly goals and then report back on the status of the actions plans. This way there is an onus on the members to complete goals. Speak to the facilitator of the Toronto CEO Peer Group in person before making any decisions and ask for references. If there is a possibility to sit in on a meeting and get to know the members to see if there is a fit, all the better. Shop for a peer group with the same detail you would take in hiring a trusted manager and you will reap the benefits for years to come. |
