Master Mind Group

If two heads are better than one it is safe to say that several heads are even more powerful. That is the idea behind Master Mind Groups. The concept of Master Mind Groups was founded by Napoleon Hill, author of Think and Grow Rich . His concept of a "Master mind Alliance ," which was defined in his book as "two or more minds working actively together in perfect harmony toward a common definite objective”, has now assisted thousands of entrepreneurs in achieving and surpassing their business goals.

Master Mind Groups in the business sector are a gathering of individuals on a regular basis to discuss ideas as well as share their personal experience, knowledge and training to benefit each individual member. Successful Master Mind Groups are formed with careful consideration and thought to each member's area of expertise, background, education and personality. For example, a complimenting group may consist of a member with an Information Technology background, a member with a marketing/PR background, a member with sales background, etc. If each member brings unique skills, knowledge and experience in areas that are important to other members of the group, the probability of success will improve.

An issue that many entrepreneurs face is difficulty in opening up their network of peers and contacts. Being a part of a Master Mind Group not only allows members to get to know each other intimately but also exposes each member to other attendees' own network of peers and contacts.

Master Mind Groups meet regularly and each member has an opportunity to discuss his or her current business situation, concerns, issues, challenges and goals. Other members will have the opportunity to offer feedback, advice and share ideas. In addition to the regular meetings which are usually held in person but can be done online or by telephone, members may be asked to contact each other in between meetings to follow up on goals and objectives. Members who conduct this type of follow up are known as Accountability Partners and assist in keeping each other on top of their goals.

To decide whether a Master Mind Group is the right option for you, consider the commitment first. With meetings scheduled regularly (usually monthly but can be more often) as well as follow up phone calls and communication exercises, there is a time commitment. Members are asked to participate actively in discussions and idea swapping so those that are not comfortable with this method of communication may have difficulty with the structure. Highly motivated, supportive individuals who are comfortable with sharing personal ideas, experiences and business information will likely make the successful members. Remember there is also a cost to joining a Master Mind Group so search for one that fits your budget.

There is no limit to the amount of members in a Master Mind Group. Five to eight members are recommended to allow each member a chance to discuss their own situations. If you are looking to join a Master Mind Group, choose one in your area that has a consistent record of meetings, has a small intimate group and stresses the importance of the screening process of its members.
