Young Presidents' Organization
| Young Presidents' Organization |
Ever wonder what famous successful world leaders such as Nelson Mandela, Bill Clinton, Fidel Castro and George W. Bush have in common? They are all members of an international peer network group called the Young Presidents' Organization. Established in the United States in the 1950s by Ray Hickok, Young Presidents' Organization has a membership of over 11,000 global leaders that spans over 90 countries. The Mission of the Young Presidents' Organization is to “create better leaders through education and idea exchange.” This is exactly what they do by providing a gathering for young leaders who are current presidents of their own organizations approximately ten times per year. Meetings focus on motivational tactics, educational enlightenment, the sharing of ideas and wisdom and the overall development of each member. With the development of an online community, the Young Presidents' Organization has propelled itself to a higher level of support that can be accessed anytime, anywhere. YPO's Member Exchange is an online database of its current and past members' experiences, stories, advice and ideas. Becoming a member of the Young Presidents' Organization means access to elite educational programs. YPO maintains a partnership with leading academic institutions such as Stanford, Harvard and the London Business School . Each institution provides tailor-made programs specially created exclusively for members. Meetings and educational programs are held at some of the world's most beautiful and exotic locations including the Costa Rica , the Amazon and Venice . Many of these sessions are open to spouses and families of the Young Presidents' Organization members which allow the members to bond with their families while experiencing the many benefits of the seminars and meetings. Young Presidents' Organization not only focuses on the professional part of a member's life. There is also a very strong sense of support for the members' personal lives. Being able to share best practices, personal stories and advice with like-minded members regarding personal issues in a confidential, encouraging environment can be a great source of support for its members. To qualify to become a member of the Young Presidents' Organization, one must be under the age of 45 and be responsible for an entire operation of a qualifying corporation/division. Prospective members must hold a title such as President, Chairman of the Board, or CEO Managing Director, Managing Partner or Publisher and employ a minimum of 50 full-time employees or hold a payroll that exceeds US$1,000,000. There are also very strict guidelines on the gross annual sales, assets or commissions earned by the corporation depending on the type of business it is, with amounts ranging from US$6,000,000 to US$160,000,000. The reputation earned by Young Presidents' Organization over the last five decades has been hard earned. Although the criteria and fees for membership restricts most from joining, the few who can afford to join and do qualify will find the benefits of the organization bountiful and ever-increasing. For those who cannot qualify for this type of organization there are many other more affordable, accessible alternatives. Mastermind groups can offer the same type of challenge, knowledge sharing and support at a much lower cost and with fewer criteria limitations.
