They say a picture is worth is a thousand words. As a social media for business marketing strategy however, pictures could be worth a thousands of dollars. Are you using pictures effectively to promote your company or products effectively online? One of the most underutilized and least appreciated tactics is sharing a full suite of downloadable online photos. Sharing images of your key staff, company building, special events and the like can help people familiarize themselves with the company and build trust with your company. In addition to the search engine optimisation benefits, online photos can help put your company in the news. Reporters and bloggers are always searching for high quality images to accompany their stories. Having interesting images can make all the difference for your company having media placement.

Branding your Social Media for Business account on Flickr

Getting started with sharing images online is as simple as creating a Flickr account. For this purpose, you will need a Yahoo ID account and of course some quality images. Flickr is free to join. Just like other social media Flickr is a way to share information about your company.

To brand your Social Media for Business Flickr account, create a user name that is readily identifiable with your company. Use your Flickr to display your company website, information about your company and link to your company logo. You will need a special social media style logo for your Flickr icon. That's called the buddy icon. This is a small square logo that you can use for Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and a variety of social media.

Uploading and optimising your images

Now that you have created a Flickr account, you are ready to start uploading your digital images. A good idea is to keep a digital camera handy at all times so that you can take pictures relating to your company whenever the opportunity presents itself. For a free Flickr account you can upload and tag up to 200 images including videos under 90 seconds long. Just uploading photos will not help you with your Search Engine Optimisation (SEO). You need to title each photo correctly and also tag them. Doing so allows the top search engines to index them properly, so more people can find them readily. It is important to remember that if you are tagging a name or phrase remember to use quotation marks other wise it will tag each section of the phrase separately.

Each photo has a space for description as well, so be sure to include important key words such as marketing, advertising, web design or whatever keywords are relevant to your field. That will make your photos more searchable as well. Flickr gives you a lot of flexibility. It was always better to upload the highest resolution photos that you have. Flickr will automatically take care of the sizing for you. If you have a lot of high resolution images that you want to upload it is best to purchase a pro account. It is inexpensive and you will be able to upload as many videos and photos as you like. This way you can share new photos all the time with your clients, suppliers, employees and followers on other social media sites.

Categorizing and sharing photos

Just like blogs, you should get into the habit of categorizing your photos in Flickr. Use broad categories that are related to your business. These can be portfolio, events, staff and so on. This allows people to find specific photos that they are looking for. Within these categories you can also organise photos into sets.

You will find that Flickr is a great way to easily email and share photographs with prospects, clients, suppliers or other organisations. You can even create slide shows. Flickr also allows you to directly link to your blog, so you can post the photos from your Flickr account right to your blog or to your Facebook account.

While Flickr has been underutilsed as a marketer you can take advantage of yet another social media marketing tool to get an edge over your competition. While using Flickr, just as with any other social media site, you should always read the rules, and follow them. As long as to do not violate the rules and by using a clear strategy, you can make use of this site to drive your business to greater heights on the internet.

Re: UPDATES: New Campaign! New Layout! New Ideas! Re: UPDATES: New Campaign! New Layout! New Ideas! - GT - thanks for the FYI - I'm not sure if we'll put a link back. Something to consider though! Trent - the new category is "Social Network and Media" which was put in to compliment the Online Businesses category that currently exists. Overall the new categories are: - Looking For, Networking and Events - Review My... - Social Network and Media - Brags and Rants These came as a result of Ringo doing research on other forums and thinking about what could be improved on ours to give a better experience for everyone. I hope you enjoy them! David, I'm looking forward to reading your Brag / Rant!

I also read it and I believe Social Media is here to stay, until the next best thing comes up. Social media proved to be useful for me many times and I think everyone should use it for their business.
Re: Social Media Marketing Ignorance Re: Social Media Marketing Ignorance - [quote="vbn411":7qciluxl]Social Media is space that you have to be in to succeed in our current climate. People are going to be discussing your brand / product whether you like it or not, so you might as well join the conversation and add value. [/quote:7qciluxl] I think that's probably one of the most realistic way to think about it. There's no real textbook way of understanding Social Media, it's the networks of people and their interactions that will exist with or without your input. As for Jennifer, You can always have 2 Facebook pages. Many people do. There is also LinkedIn, which is like a professional networking version of Facebook. The only way to know is to try it.
