Kiplinger’s Personal Finance was one of the first, and remains one of the foremost personal financial magazines in the U.S. First founded by W.M. Kiplinger as The Kiplinger Magazine, a new issue has been published every month since 1947. Its mission is to provide “sound, unbiased advice in clear, concise language” on everything from paying for college to buying your first house to retiring with financial security.

“The times will always be changing,” said Kiplinger. “Much of life and work consists of looking for the changes in advance and figuring out what to do about them.” It is to that end that he created the magazine, which continues to remain under the control of the Kiplinger family.

Today, in the company’s effort to reach a wider audience and to keep up with the times, an online version of much of the magazine’s contents can now be found at Kiplinger.com. For any of you who are looking for advice about investing, managing your money, or spending wisely, this site can be your one-stop resource centre. Whether you are just starting out in life or nearing retirement, they’ve got the tips you need to make sure you come out on top.

A one year subscription to Kiplinger’s Personal Finance will cost you about $12, at $1 per issue. Well worth it for the avid reader of all things personal finance, for those just looking to get a quick overview of the latest market trends, or some quick tips on how to climb out of debt, the company’s website should serve you well enough.

In addition to the many regular columns or email alerts you can sign up for, Kiplinger.com also gives you the opportunity to take advantage of some handy online tools. How do you test your tolerance level for risk? What is your net worth? How does your salary compare? How much will it cost to raise a child? Are you better off renting? How much would a new mortgage reduce your taxes? Are you saving enough for retirement? What are the real miles per gallon of your car?

They are simple questions that everybody asks at one time or another. Now, you can find easy and quick online tools to help you figure out the answers, which are decidedly less simple.

Kiplinger’s Personal Finance website also offers up to the minute business news, forums for you to confer with other users, stock and mutual fund quotes and credit rates. But, with over fifty years experience in the industry, there are number of other ways you can also access the company’s expertise. For instance, the weekly Kiplinger Letter, first launched in 1923, is the longest continually published newsletter in the U.S. The company’s experts have also authored a number of books and released software products, all to help you on your sound financial way.

Take advantage of the free advice and the handy tools from a company that has a fifty plus year history of offering savvy financial advice.

I'll just add that if I was going into business for myself and could only have one skill it would be Sales & Marketing. You need to be able to create customers first and foremost. Finance is more of a support function for entrepreneurs.
