Credit Alliance Group reports an increase in complaints to the FTC about creditor harrassment calls

According to the AP report, almost 39 percent of Federal Trade Commission complaints cited demands to pay debts that weren't owed or payments that were more than legally allowed. As more and more people get behind on their debts, the likelihood that they will experience creditor abuse will increase. If you are one of Credit Alliance Groups clients with a DAAN Phone Module who are on the receiving end of this abuse, be sure to contact let us know so that we can have the DAAN Group refer you to an attorney in your area proficient in this area of law for possible legal action against the creditor. Last year almost 71,000 complaints about creditor harassment were filed with the Federal Trade Commission. That is twice the number that filed in 2003. But that's not all. Over 14,000 complaints were reported to the Better Business Bureau, and thousands more were filed around the country with state and city officials. Consumers have rights that they may not be aware of. The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act was created to protect and inform consumers of their rights.

A list A list - A list of companies that scam would be too long to list (unfortunately) and I'd be afraid if anything legitimate accidentally ended up on the list, I could face getting sued for slander for naming them. The bottom line is making sure you all conduct plenty of research to ensure companies you deal with are registered as a business and has no major unresolved reports against them (like with the better business bureau). Remember, even the best of businesses can have a few complaints, but are generally resolved, but you must stay clear of those that have many complaints, especially when ongoing and/or unresolved!
Cash-flow helps in getting financed Cash-flow helps in getting financed - Also, if you are trying to obtain a loan, the first thing that a creditor will take a look at is your quick assets, which includes cash. But of course, the asset to liability ratio will also be evaluated.
What the Better Business Bureau does What the Better Business Bureau does - [quote:1urk8etq]There is such a diversity of businesses out there, how effetive are they in protecting the consumers or entrepreneurs[/quote:1urk8etq] The way I understad it, at least here in the US, every BBB chapterhas a website, and on that website is a list of companies who have had complaints about them. People trying to decide if they want to use a company check that list...and if there's no complaints.... That's why it's imperative for people who have been ripped off to complain to their BBB. It might not help them, but it will help other people down the line. On the other hand, people do sometimes maliciously make complaints about businesses - so I tink the BBB does talk to both sides to see what's what... In addition to the BBB, each state has its own Consumer Protection Agency, and they also inspect claims of wrongdoing.
Re: Infographic: 10 Tips On Preparing For The Call Re: Infographic: 10 Tips On Preparing For The Call - Hi Evan, I like this a lot and it reminds me of my time in the service sector when I had to handle complaints occasionally. I didn’t ever work in direct tele-sales but the way you talk to people in the first 10 or 15 seconds tends to set the tone. Your tips can be adapted to most kinds of cutomer service calls and it's all about understanding the emotions of the caller and finding common ground where you can both make progress. regards, Mal.

They got our file entered in the computer wrong and ended up posting 3 major complaints against us. They were actually for a different company that wasn't related and that wasn't even similar in any way. That caused me a mountain of problems and cost us several big dollar jobs. Eventually they bothered to speak with us - it took about 4 months to fix the problem. That was 4 months after I found out about it. They didn't offer a refund for the months that we had a negative rating, only fixed the problem after I spent many hours pushing them to fix it and they had the nerve to push me to renew my membership. Needless to say, I haven't joined the BBB again. And, they charged me decent money to be a member. Shri
