Three Steps to Stop Energy Drain
It is very easy to be distracted with what is going on in the world, what your mother did, why your friend cannot stop fighting with another friend, why your kids seem to have taken a class on how to annoy your parents or any other topic that comes to mind. Every distraction that comes our way is an energy drain. Every energy drain is one more thing taking your focus away from what you want to achieve.
I know it is not easy to ignore the distractions and some distractions you just cannot ignore, eventually you do have to stop the kids from beating each other, but there are things you can do to reduce the amount of distractions that you do need to really deal with and thus increase the amount of time and energy for you to focus on your goals.
1. Only focus on the distractions that have an immediate impact on you at that exact moment. Is your mom rambling on and on about her favorite coffee cake for the 20th time this week? Politely tell her you need to go and then go do something for you.
2. Create a no gossip rule and attempt to stick to it! Gossip is draining and can waste all too much of our time. If you find yourself constantly gossiping either tell your gossip cohort that you need to change the subject, or set a time limit. Then get on with reaching your positive goals.
3. Watch where your energy is dipping. You might not even know that something is draining your energy. Pay attention to your body, is it telling you that something is not right? Listen to it when it does and then eliminate that draining item.
By eliminating different sources of energy drain you can increase your effectiveness and have more energy for you and what you really want.
