How to Remove or Release a Tax Lien
Removing or releasing a tax lien can be a very big deal if this is something you are faced with. When you fail to pay your taxes in a certain period of time you can be hit with a tax lien by the IRS. At that point you will have to start working on one thing: removing the lien. If you do not do this things are only going to get worse for you. Fortunately, there are a few ways to go about removing or releasing a lien on your property. They include:
- Doing nothing. While this may sound silly, some people sit back and wait for the tax lien to expire. Even though this is an option, it is not usually the best one. The reason that you don't want to do this is that the lien can be extended at any point in time before it expires. Unless the IRS misses the extension you are probably not going to be able to benefit from this option.
- Pay the money you owe. One of the easiest ways to remove or release a tax lien is to simply pay your debt. The reason for the lien in the first place was because you did not pay what you owe. If you want to get rid of your tax lien all you have to do is pay the IRS, or at the very least consider your options if you cannot pay in full.
- Speaking of not paying in full, the IRS may agree to a payment plan. Not only will this remove your tax lien, but as long as you continue to pay it will also help you to get rid of your debt sooner rather than later. Contrary to popular belief you do not have to pay your debt in one lump sum to remove a tax lien
