2011 Springer Turkey Challenge Feeds 10,000 in Sacramento Community This Holiday Season

Sacramento Financial Advisor Raises Money for Holidays

SACRAMENTO, Calif. Jan. 24, 2012 - Keith Springer helps local families in the Sacramento area this holiday season with his 13th annual Springer Turkey Challenge.

The 2011 Springer Turkey Challenge was able to feed close to 10,000 people in need in the Sacramento region this holiday season. This has been one of their most successful years. The proceeds went to the Sacramento Food Bank, River Oak Center for Children, the Stanford Settlement and the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Sacramento.

The Springer Turkey Challenge was started by Keith Spriner, author of Facing Goliath: How to Triumph in the Dangerous Market Ahead, and president of Springer Financial Advisorss based in Sacramento CA in 1999, as a way of giving back to the community. Springer said, "In the beginning, I would actually go to the supermarket and negotiate the price of turkeys, pay for them, then help the food bank load them into their pick-ups for distribution."

As the Springer Turkey Challenge grew, people began donating money instead of turkeys. This was able to help those who needed more than a turkey during the tough holiday season. Springer says, "This is one of the things I truly look forward to the most each year, something where I can actually make a difference to the world by helping out."

Most of the contributions come in as Thanksgiving approaches. They accept donations as low as $15 to "buy a turkey", which Springer then matches, doubling the pot. As Thanksgiving approaches, they present the money to feed the families most in need right here in our community. The "Young" Apprentice The "Young" Apprentice - I think a cool new idea for "The Apprentice" would be to have all young contestants, rather than just selling sex (e.g. Season 6 in Los Angeles) or using celebrities for ratings. Maybe every applicant for the show would have to be between the ages of 15 to 18 or 18 to 22, since there've been seasons where younger contestants have been stereotyped and discriminated against for their age and limited business inexperience (e.g. Lee Bienstock in Season 5). So why not make the stomping ground fair? Why not have an Apprentice Season where only talented youngsters fight over a job with Trump? I mean, it gets kind of boring hearing the contestants say "I'm older and have more business experience than so and so.... and that's the reason you should hire me Mr. Trump." That's a ridiculous argument because many youths are smarter and more successful than people even twice their age.

Apprentice Apprentice - You're right Kevin - Season 1 was the best - but I'm a sucker for business television shows so I'll watch the next Apprentice!
Re: Underground Restaurant Re: Underground Restaurant - Turkey too is going to build an uderground hotel in Istanbul. They say that it will be the fist undergound hotel in the world, but I learnt that there are already such hotels in Florida, Dubai etc.
