Entrepreneur's Coaching Center - Do you have what it takes?
In a recent ground-breaking study by Target Training International, Inc. in conjunction with Ron Bonstetter, PH.D, Bill Bonstetter, M. A. and DeAnne Preston entrepreneurs were found to be a unique breed. Over 66 percent of them failed in some business venture while building as many as five companies and selling at least two of them.
Since entrepreneurship plays such an important role in our economy we would be well served to understand what makes these unique individuals unique. People are movitated to do things, either intrinsically or extrinsically. For the most part people work to satisfy their values. So what motivates an entrepreneur to do what they do? The Bonstetters measured known serial entrepreneurs and what motivated them and they found the top motivator was money. Nearly 64% of thos surveyed said wealth and return on time and effort was what drove them to do what they did, compared to only 38% of the general population saying that money was thier most important value or motivation.
Generally, what we value determines the way we behave or act. Entrepreneurs were assessed to deterimin their dominate behavior style and 57% admitted to being very competitive compared to only 12% of the general pubic feeling they were very competitive.
Entrepreneurs were determined to have greate performance potential in the following: Leadership, Goal Getting, Show & Tell, Coaching Others, Interpersonal Skills, Persuasion, Personal Effectiveness adn Management. I found it interesting, as well, that entrepreneurs were often not good team-players, not good in written communication, tended to be poor self-managers and often had little empathy.
If you have been thinking about starting a business of your own, your first order of business should be to understand your values or motivators, dominate behavior and capacity to perform specific job skills.
