The Entrepreneurial "Perfect Storm"

Last night's"Entrepreneurs R Us" show was particularly satisfying. Seeing a client and friend achieve their goal is always satisfying to those of us looking on, but when we actually achieve our goals it is more than satisfying, it is explosive.

I am not sure if Kathi Jones would describe her successful business venture, the Persona Medical Spa as an explosive event, but I am sure she and others involved with her have a tremendous sense of accomplishment. Kathi shared with us that she had a passion for the Spa industry and a Medical background that helped her to create the successful business she has today. After the show she shared with me that she had leased adjacent space to expand and was looking forward to even more successes.

Three essential Kathi shared with our audience were:

• People-the need to find and hire the best. Hiring people on a coin-flip and hoping they work out was not the path to success. Learning that hiring quality people that fit the job and holding them accountable for superior achievements is a key to continued success.
• Persistence-there were many times along the way that tempted Kathi to "throw in the towel" but she didn't, even in the face of great challenges. She persisted and kept on going, pursuing her goal and never gave up.
• Passion-Kathi would not have continued in her business venture had she not had a large dose of Passion for her project. Passion for what you do is the environment in which innovation, vision, and planning thrive.

So, in all, Persona Medical Spa, the first of its kind in Houston, is growing, in spite of a struggling economy, and provides valued services and special jobs for all who want them. Thanks Kathi, for your entrepreneurial lessons valued by all of us.

Re: Are Economic Recessions Good for Franchising? - well, I can't give you any verified stats at the moment. But, it's a fact that as more and more people face layoffs they look in the direction of franchising. These are folks that need the security of a proven business model and have resources to jump into a franchise. It's a clear trend that has been witnessed in past recessions. My concern is that we are not in a simple recession... If you look at a recession as a big storm that will create some havoc and disrupt lives, then the events we're facing in the near future could be a supersized hurricane. We're heading into uncharted waters. High fuel costs, which will probably fluctuate for a while then jump again High debt loads... now in the trillions Sinking housing market... how low will it go? The US war machine is in full swing... with eyes on IRAN All of these factors are clashing to create the Perfect Storm and I don't like it one bit. I tell ya, there's a bunch of madmen at the helm. So how does this bode for franchising? jeez... I don't know... I'm gonna get myself a double scotch on the rocks. Cheers.

It is true that with the every day gadgets, services and products that we use, it is easy to look at them just for what they are and not what they could be. We should always be on the look out for ideas that we can explore or existing products that we can maybe improve or re-design and that is also true with Internet Marketing. regards, Mal.
Seems we've got a spammer... - Shoe Perfect is going around posting ads for his site... I'm thinking rather than having a wait before somoene can post again, have a 24-hour delay from the time someone joins, to the time they can post? That might deter people who just want to "hit and run"... in a way that the post-again delay might not.
