If we want to be successful and relevant in the future, we've got to understand the way the world really is and, more importantly, the way it will be in the future. Unless you force yourself to step back and take a global look at everything around you, you will make the mistake of assuming everyone in the world looks, acts, and thinks like you.
Every 43 seconds, there are 100 new babies born somewhere in the world. Two of them are born into what we call the developed nations, and 98 out of 100 new babies are born in what is defined as an underdeveloped country.
Most of us believe we live in the computer age filled with endless information and a World Wide Web to give us global contact and perspective. While the 21st Century technology is marvelous, we must realize we live on a planet where half the population has never made or received a phone call.
While many of us march boldly into the 21st Century, thinking we are leaving the archaic 20th Century behind, many of our fellow inhabitants of earth are trying to get into the 19th Century with respect to technology, medicine, education, and every other area of human development. This discrepancy between the 21st and 19th Centuries will create many challenges and corresponding opportunities in the coming years.
Last year, China put more new cars on the road than the United States. The difference between new cars in China and new cars in the U.S. is the fact that-in China-these are not individuals or families replacing an old car for a new one. These new cars represent new drivers and car owners who will be requiring roads, parking, fuel, and many things we take for granted.
As people around the world and nations move from a 19th Century existence into the 20th Century and toward the developments and the innovations we enjoy in the 21st Century, the world will change. Change is always frightening at first glance. Not as much because it is different, but because it is unknown. We humans always try to avoid the unknown as we somehow seem to dwell on the disasters and misfortune that might lie just around that mysterious corner. In reality, the unknown has always held, and still holds, many more opportunities and exciting innovations than anything else.
As you go through your day today, commit to creating success in your world by understanding and considering the whole world.
Today's the day!
