Required Reading for Success

Required Reading for Success

I have often heard it said by one of the great leaders in the field of personal development, my friend Charlie "Tremendous" Jones, that five years from now you will be the same person that you are today with the exception of the people you meet and the books you read. I find that by reading books, we have the ability to meet the greatest minds in recorded history. They are simply waiting to give us the secrets of a successful life that have transcended the decades and centuries.

When I began my own personal quest for success, one of my mentors gave me a list of required reading material. He said, "No one can consider themselves well-read unless they have completed all ten of the books." Since then, my list has grown and shifted, but today, I want to give you my list of the ten books I believe that you would need to read in order to consider yourself well read in the areas of personal development and success.

  1. Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill
  2. The Magic of Thinking Big by David J. Schwartz
  3. The Power of Positive Thinking by Dr. Norman Vincent Peal
  4. Wake up and Live by Dorothea Brande
  5. The Psychology of Winning by Dr. Denis Waitley
  6. How to Sell Anything to Anybody by Joe Girard
  7. The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Dr. Stephen Covey
  8. Tough Times Never Last, but Tough People Do by Dr. Robert Schuller
  9. Giant Steps by Tony Robbins
  10. Lead the Field by Earl Nightingale
You may agree or disagree with my choices, and that really doesn't matter. What matters is, have you read your own list within the field of endeavor most important to your life goals?

People who study the history of the game of baseball are very busy debating who should be selected as the "all century team." While some of the experts disagree, we can all understand that the list will be constantly changing. In a few years, some young player will emerge and have to be considered as one of the greatest of all times. In much the same way, your top ten list of books will be changing and growing for the rest of your life. And if you pursue your quest for the ultimate 10 books, you will continue to change and grow as well.

Today's the day!

Re: Subject line Etiquette Re: Subject line Etiquette - [quote="jvprosperity":b50c4a20]Another email rant: Is there some place on the internet that outlines proper "Subject line" headings? There mus be a system out there that people use to be more efficient email senders. Not everything that comes into my mail box requires my immediate attention. I would love to educate myself and the people who send me emails on proper subject lines. Maybe something like: "Urgent Review: <<Title of document>>" "Decision Required: "<<Subject matter>>" just something for me to quickly scan the subject lines and decide which ones need my immediate attention. Anyone know of such email standards that exist out there?[/quote:b50c4a20] The only messages I get that say Urgent or Decision Required etc are spam. I tell people to put something relevant to their business with me in the subject line - this is especially important for the people who fall into my junk mail. Chris

Re: How do we stimulate more forum activity and interest? - We do have the ability to track # of posts (as evident in the contest tabs above) - Reading posts is a different matter - I'm not sure if phpbb has any plugins for that but it's an interesting suggestion.
Finding creativity Finding creativity - Great topic Andy! For me it's: - Going for a walk (I always try to get out at least once during the day) - Taking a shower - Reading business magazines (especially Inc and Business 2.0) - Late at night (I'm more productive / creative at night than during the day) - Relaxing with a drink at the bookstore
