The Ultimate Gift

Guest post by: Jim Stovall

Article Overview: In the past few years, I have had the privilege of writing several books and a number of these syndicated columns. Recently, I have completed my first novel. Writing fiction is a venture into a new arena as you have the privilege of writing about the world and the way you think it should be instead of the way it really is. Without spoiling the story, when one of the richest men in the country dies, he leaves all of his relatives money, businesses, or property, with the exception of one young man. He leaves his great-nephew a 12-month odyssey which results in The Ultimate Gift.

The Ultimate Gift

In the past few years, I have had the privilege of writing several books and a number of these syndicated columns.

Life is a gift that has been given to us. The way we live it and maximize it is our gift to those around us. Following is a list of just a few of life's gifts that we all can enjoy as outlined in The Ultimate Gift:

 1. The Gift of Work: He who loves his work never labors.
 2. The Gift of Money: Money is nothing more than a tool. It can be a force for good, a force for evil, or simply be idle.
 3. The Gift of Friends: It is a wealthy person, indeed, who calculates riches not in gold but in friends.
 4. The Gift of Learning: Education is a lifelong journey whose destination expands as you travel.
 5. The Gift of Problems: Problems may only be avoided by exercising good judgment. Good judgment may only be gained by experiencing life's problems.
 6. The Gift of Family: Some people are born into wonderful families. Others have to find or create them. Being a member of a family is a priceless membership that we pay nothing for but love.
 7. The Gift of Laughter: Laughter is good medicine for the soul. Our world is desperately in need of more medicine.
 8. The Gift of Dreams: Faith is all that dreamers need to see into the future.
 9. The Gift of Giving: The only way you can truly get more out of life for yourself is to give part of yourself away.
 10. The Gift of Gratitude: In those times we yearn to have more in our lives, we should dwell on the things we already have. In doing so, we will often find that our lives are already full to overflowing
 11. The Gift of a Day: Life at its essence boils down to one day at a time. Today is the day!
 12. The Gift of Love: Love is a treasure for which we can never pay. The only way we keep it is to give it away.
 13. The Ultimate Gift: In the end, life lived to its fullest is its own Ultimate Gift.
Begin to live your life today as an expression of The Ultimate Gift.

Today's the day!

Re: Bye Bye Vista Re: Bye Bye Vista -
I've been cleaning house...Finally rid myself of this atrocious operating system called Windows Vista. Eeeegads! It's good to have a nice clean computer again - all reformatted and shiny new! Windows XP has been reinstalled and Vista is in the trash can. Vista is a bomb... plain and simple. ..[/quote:3q55cgov] Where do I begin... I love Vista Ultimate on my personal laptop, but when I tried to integrate my Vista Ultimate laptop into the local area network here at work... Let's just say Vista couldn't quite take on the challenge of a network log-on and killed itself. I have since formatted Vista and vowed to keep my Vista at home, XP here at work. I have an XP desktop and I'm having an older laptop of mine reformatted into an XP Pro laptop for when I need to VPN in to work (as it turns out, Vista and my office network don't really like to VPN, as it is currently.) Vista is a lot of fun for personal use, but it's an abysmal atrocity for work use.
Good Adwords Books? Good Adwords Books? - I've just purchased "Ultimate Guide to Pay-Per-Click Advertising" by Richard Stokes. Has anyone read it, and if so what do you think? Does anyone have any other recommendations for books relating to Adwords? Thanks,
Import/distribution Business Import/distribution Business - I have 12 years experience in importing/distributing Kitchen/Gift items from Europe. I’ve been a successful entrepreneur to run the business. Recently, I lost my business ($5 million annual revenues) in my recent divorce and I'm ready to go again. I know the markets, the reps, the customers and the ropes. Need an investor. Is it you?
Re: Starting customized giftware... Re: Starting customized giftware... - Starting off with a Customized Gift is definitely a great idea. But you have not mentioned anything about what is or are the products that your organization is into. You have also not mentioned what is the target market or who your customers are. But it needs to be mentioned that whom you want to give the gift. There are two different categories of people who visit you. One category is those who are not much interested to buy. They visit the store for inquisitiveness or finding out what you have to offer them. These people can be given some smaller tokens. The other category is of those who buy from you are your real customers and you can give them gifts. The best gift after the sales will definitely be the after sales support and customer services. But these are in the longer run to retain the customers. You can start off with giving some percentage extra depending on what you have to offer. How about Discounts or different Gifts in lieu of purchase of X Amount, Y Amount...
Re: Burn all your bridges inorder to succeed?? Re: Burn all your bridges inorder to succeed?? -
Some people are very self motivated, while others are lazy and need to create a sense of urgency to get themselves moving toward their goal. For instance, I was just watching a television interview on a mixed martial arts fighter who admitted to being lazy and burned all of his bridges in order to succeed. He sold all of his possessions, got in his car and left his family and friends behind to pursue his dream until he eventually made it into the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championships). When you have literally nothing to go home to, it can drive a person to do great things. At times, burning all of your bridges is what it takes since "bonds" between you and others can actually be a distraction.[/quote:x11o039o] As my fraternity brothers and I said in college, "there is nothing that motivates us so much as the imminence of failure." For my personal fitness I definitely have to burn bridges; I need to be left alone for months in order to reach my fitness goals.
