The Ultimate Journey

For over a dozen years, I have been writing these weekly columns that are read by countless people in newspapers, magazines, and online publications around the world. I am privileged to have each of you as regular readers of this weekly offering.

Most of you became aware of me and my work through a little book I wrote entitled The Ultimate Gift. The book has sold millions of copies and became a major motion picture from 20th Century Fox starring James Garner, Abigail Breslin, and Brian Dennehy. The movie continues to be among the top-selling family movie titles everywhere.

The Ultimate Gift is a story about a billionaire, Red Stevens, who is nearing the end of his life and, instead of making his heir Jason Stevens an instant millionaire, he sends him on a 12-month odyssey to experience the gifts of money, friends, work, family, love, and other gifts with the provision that if Jason can succeed at each of these tasks, he will inherit the Ultimate Gift.

The Ultimate Gift book and movie are now part of grade school, middle school, and high school curriculums, and the lessons are studied in many universities and post-graduate courses. I have received calls, letters, and emails from countless business leaders, clergy, prisoners, politicians, and people from all walks of life in every part of the world who have embraced the message of The Ultimate Gift.

When I finished writing The Ultimate Gift, I knew I was through with the story, but not done with the characters and message. Subsequently, I wrote The Ultimate Life which continues the saga of Red and Jason Stevens. The Ultimate Life is currently being made into a major motion picture as well. You can watch a preview on YouTube.

Recently, my publisher David C. Cook has released the third book in this series entitled The Ultimate Journey. To read more about The Ultimate Journey, visit my website.

It may well be my favorite novel thus far as it deals with the past, present, and future of the journey we are all taking through this life. I hope those of you who have enjoyed The Ultimate Gift and The Ultimate Life will take the opportunity to get reacquainted with some old friends in The Ultimate Journey. And if you've never met Red and Jason Stevens, I hope you will join us all as we travel through The Ultimate Journey.

Life is about the journey, not the destination. The greatest mountain climbers in the world spend months and years, along with many thousands of dollars, to undertake a great odyssey so that, maybe, they can spend 10 or 15 minutes on the top of the world. Some of them reach the top, and many never do; but if they have enjoyed the journey and traveled well, they have all succeeded.

As you go through your day today, remember that life takes many twists and turns, and you can't always succeed at first; but you can live your life as the Ultimate Journey.

Today's the day!

Re: Bye Bye Vista Re: Bye Bye Vista -
I've been cleaning house...Finally rid myself of this atrocious operating system called Windows Vista. Eeeegads! It's good to have a nice clean computer again - all reformatted and shiny new! Windows XP has been reinstalled and Vista is in the trash can. Vista is a bomb... plain and simple. ..[/quote:3q55cgov] Where do I begin... I love Vista Ultimate on my personal laptop, but when I tried to integrate my Vista Ultimate laptop into the local area network here at work... Let's just say Vista couldn't quite take on the challenge of a network log-on and killed itself. I have since formatted Vista and vowed to keep my Vista at home, XP here at work. I have an XP desktop and I'm having an older laptop of mine reformatted into an XP Pro laptop for when I need to VPN in to work (as it turns out, Vista and my office network don't really like to VPN, as it is currently.) Vista is a lot of fun for personal use, but it's an abysmal atrocity for work use.

Re: Which movie will make the most money this summer? Re: Which movie will make the most money this summer? - Hellboy disappeared from the Top-10 faster than I expected.. Journey To The Center of the Earth was fun (I saw it in 3D), but really suffered from the fact that it didn't have a villain to provide tension. The problem with Crystal Skull as a family film was that it had that totally unneccessary sequence with the voracious ants eating people alive... I didn't like it when it happened in the Mummy with the beetles, and I didn't like it here! Dark Knight seems to keep chugging along. One thing that really irritates me about movies is that sometimes the trailers shown are totally inappropriate for the movie it's preceding. I went to a screening of Wall-E - with a theater full of little kids, and they showed two rather graphic trailers for horror movies! That's totally unacceptable!
Re: Burn all your bridges inorder to succeed?? Re: Burn all your bridges inorder to succeed?? -
Some people are very self motivated, while others are lazy and need to create a sense of urgency to get themselves moving toward their goal. For instance, I was just watching a television interview on a mixed martial arts fighter who admitted to being lazy and burned all of his bridges in order to succeed. He sold all of his possessions, got in his car and left his family and friends behind to pursue his dream until he eventually made it into the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championships). When you have literally nothing to go home to, it can drive a person to do great things. At times, burning all of your bridges is what it takes since "bonds" between you and others can actually be a distraction.[/quote:x11o039o] As my fraternity brothers and I said in college, "there is nothing that motivates us so much as the imminence of failure." For my personal fitness I definitely have to burn bridges; I need to be left alone for months in order to reach my fitness goals.
