Leadership through Priority Management – Not Time Management - By David Liddell

If you're familiar with change management, you also most likely know the importance of having managers and senior managers who are skilled in change management. In order for a company to be a success, change is necessary. Without change, of course, companies cannot better themselves, provide more opportunities and prosper. Change, of course, can be negative, but improvement requires change and improvement is what all companies should strive for. But what about the transition that comes with change?

As with any new situation, concept, idea and so on, a transition period exists that sits between the previous way of doing things and the new and improved way of doing things. Change management actually encompasses specific tools, techniques, methods or strategies of dealing with this transition to change. In fact, with change comes a resistance which can be damaging to teams and employees, managers, senior managers and even company owners. Utilizing change management is a positive way to deal with the change, the transition and helping others deal with those same things. Without this, many companies would experience negative resistance, which leads to decreased productivity, less sales, less profit and other problems.

Having management that is change oriented and transition oriented provides companies with an edge over competitors who don't. The key is to bring the entire company into the transition and new methods in a positive way rather than to be unaware of or disregarding of the resistance that comes with change. The benefits that are existent with change management are large and many, including a well adjusted team, happier employees, increased productivity and a more successful company.

There are many different ways in which managers can be trained for this sort of skill, including workshops, independent trainers and other ways. Training managers to deal with the changes your company goes through as you grow, improve and thrive is an investment. What you come down to is a simple question of whether you are willing to invest in your company and your team in order to get a return that could quite possibly make your investment look like small change. The answer for most would be yes, but it is still something that wise business owners should think on before answering. Learning about the benefits of change management will help you make your decision regarding it and what it means for your company.
