How Organized is Your Business? Part 4

Yesterday I asked you how organized your business was. Did you consider your answer? Today I'll share a thought on how you can move yourself to a business more organized. Schedule the Strategic.

Schedule the Strategic

Business owners often feel like they are fire fighters rather than business owners. While there is usually an adrenalin rush in solving the urgent issues, it is not a very effective way to run your business. Make sure that you have time scheduled in your week for strategic activities such as client relationship management, product development, future planning or marketing. Treat that time as a client commitment and do not allow other things to get scheduled on top of it. By taking the time weekly to plan, you will have fewer fires to put out and a well-oiled business.

Are you working in your business or on it? If you are more "in" than "on" you are likely saying there are a lot of things that you want to do. Is your business growing as fast as you would like it to be? Could it be because of where you are spending your time?

Evaluate Where You Need to Get Organized

Occasionally take some time to review how you are spending your time and how you are using your space. Do you need to do an organization overhaul? Ask yourself the following questions:

1. How many hours a week am I working?
2. Am I spending the time I want on non-work related activities?
3. How do I feel at the end of the day?
4. Do I enjoy what I am doing?
5. How often am I interrupted at work?
6. What time does my work day end?
7. How do I tackle a new project?
8. How quickly can I find a filed document?
9. Is my in-basket overflowing?
10. How do I handle "fires" or urgent items that come up?
11. How do I plan my day?
12. Do I have an effective client relationship system?
13. Has disorganization caused me a client?

Be as honest as you can be with yourself as you ask the questions above. You may be surprised with what you learn!

What do you want to stop doing in your daily activities so that you can grow your business the way you want to grow it?

Business Coaching Internship Review Business Coaching Internship Review - I joined in during the first phase of the internship and at this point we are committed to doing research and development of RSC Business Group operating in Toronto. RSC Business Group already has products and services in Coaching Small businesses in Los Angeles but we didn't want to assume that the same products were wanted and needed in the Toronto market. Our goal at this point is to commit to interviewing 1000 business owners to capture this data. Through the teleconference internship I've been involved in we've been focusing on Communication Skills and on active listening which are practiced when we conduct our interviews and Coach our clients when they come on board. This is a lot harder than it sounds! Part of the internship is also creating the Toronto RSC Business Group's departments, job descriptions, Marketing and Communication plans etc that a business owner would create for their own company. This trains us in the way we would coach a company as well. The internship is phased in two parts and there is compensation plan involved as well for the clients you personally bring in. These clients are coached directly by Robert Chun as you begin but you are given a chance to learn his techniques. I haven't gone through this experience yet though. It's hard to explain Robert Chun's method of Coaching as it happens at a psychological level in his ability to listen and question the person being coached into the next steps they need to take. The Teleconferences are 2 hours long but it's very interactive. If you have a desire to explore this area of Business I'd recommend contacting Vwodek listed above and get invited to a Coaching Conference call. You can decided then if it's for you. Note: it is a commitment but the skills you walk away with whether you plan on working with RSC Business Group or not is invaluable.
