To become your best self, you need to become a slightly different person.
To become your best self...
You need to become a slightly different
person -- the next step of who you are to become.
If you're reading this newsletter, chances are you're a successful person already -- with most of the things you want in life. You have strengths, talents, are ambitious, and you probably already have achieved many accomplishments and joys!
However, there is a next level to who you are. Can you sense that? Potential that you are about to grow into. Things perhaps you've been frustrated about -- whether that is in your career, business or love life.
In order to achieve these new things, that next level, you must grow into something new, and become a slightly different person -- a new version of yourself.
It can be difficult to let go of the "old" you -- it's as sad as a graduation or a move alone across country, or watching a child go to school for the first time. It can also be terrifying -- who will you be if you let go of the old? This is where you must trust that the ground will be there for you before you jump. Without that trust, the jump is impossible.
This next level is not just an option, but is vital for your happiness. We all need a balance of stability and new growth. As they say "Whatever is not growing, is dying."
What do you know you need to focus on in terms of your own growth? What is the natural next step?
Keeping your life the way it is now, means your results will stay pretty much the same -- even a 100% satisfying life with great friends, family, work, etc., will not stay that way without some challenge, growth, evolution. A stagnant life is not fulfilling one, especially when you have SO much potential.
When you even slightly improve yourself, or take a small risk, or make a small change, you bring newness into your life.
You are not only building a foundation for your future by doing this, but you are creating the basis for successful results. Even a very small change, over time, will reap enormous rewards.
To create what you want, you need to become a slightly different person. For you, who is that person?
Think about your goals and dreams for your life, and who you will need to evolve into. What kind of person will you become in order to achieve the following and live your life to the fullest?
*career path
*business (building or creating)
*finding the love of your life
*Building an even better relationship
*Expanding your social circle or trying new activities/challenges
*dreams for travel, family, or anything that moves you!
Ideally, what you'd like to create for yourself in the above areas. What outcome would be fantastic? Or simply would make you really, really happy?
Now for a Visualization...
Relax for a moment and picture your life when it includes these wonderful things! See it? What does your beautiful life look like? Relax into this image.
A beautiful picture isn't it? Plenty of all you need. Spend 5-10 minutes "seeing" this. Just relax and close your eyes right now. It might help to play a relaxing song.
How to make it real...
You need to become the person who builds these dreams. This requires you to adapt, to stretch, to at times sacrifice, to perhaps increase your discipline, or to let go of control in some areas, to tap into powerful parts of yourself. Do this and you WILL surprise yourself with what you are capable of.
Are you ready!? Keep reading for the how.
The person who is reading this right now is capable of getting the things you are currently getting. To get something new, requires become something new. What do you need to become to get what you want?
Just like a Caterpillar does an excellent job of crawling, but will ALWAYS fail to fly until he transforms into a butterfly, you cannot expect to reach new goals without transforming yourself. Your new goals will requires "wings" as well! Read on to build those wings.
What are human "butterfly wings" made of?
To transform you must first believe it is possible. You must trust yourself more than ever. You need to let go of who you have been -- the caterpillar -- and understand that has been an important season in your life.
For the next season, you will need to gather your strength. To feel your potential in your gut. To see your path in life and journey clearly in your mind.
This is where you take action boldly, despite your fear. You will feel afraid and that is a certainty. But here you will begin to do the things you have NOT done in the past. The things you've perhaps been avoiding might be the most important.
To act you must first trust yourself and know you may fail. But see this as a muscle you are building simply by doing something difficult again and again. Provide a soft place for yourself to fall -- in your mind and heart -- every step of the way. This will enable you to continue and stay focused despite all odds.
What are your "wings" made of? What do you need your wings to be made of in order to accomplish what you need? Write it down now on a scrap of paper. Put that paper in your pocket.
Go through the above process by yourself. Trust yourself to do it. Take a very small action the minute you finish reading this newsletter. A small thing you've been putting off. Perhaps a single step of a larger project. Do it now, and you'll feel the instant results.
Then, to further cement your work, do the following:
Try a visualization:
1. Visualize who you would need to become to achieve your goals. How would this person think? What would they believe? How would they carry themselves? Where would they go? What would they wear? Eat? Say?
What is this person like? Visualize this person.
Understand that you are now this person. Just as a butterfly is the same creature as a caterpillar, you are the same creature as what you will become -- even if at the moment you don't look the same.
Even if you feel unready, simply choose to BE this person. Walk like them. Sit like them. Breathe like them. Feel the feelings they feel. Think the thoughts they think.
Again, visualize the person. Successful and living your dreams. See it in great detail. If you feel fear or want to stop that's okay. That is your caterpillar feeling afraid of you flying away. Reassure yourself you can never fly away from yourself, but only change forms.
Who is that person? It's you. Already you.
Living your potential. Calm, focused, centered, confident, relaxed, strong. You are a person who has worked hard to develop your potential.
Now take that piece of paper out of your pocket. Write on the paper, "This is who I am."
Again, re-visit the vision you created in your mind for who you would become. Now know that this is already you. This is the you who is hiding under a few layers of doubt. Just like the sculpted muscle that is hiding under a layer of fat.
See your life -- your new life. Now reach out at "grab" that life. Say out loud "This is who I am."
Pull this new vision right into your chest, hold that new life and pull it right into your heart. Let it sit there and take up residence, a warm happy tingling in your heart.
Pull in the new person who is capable of all things, pull in the strength to handle whatever happens -- keep it there in your heart. It's already you.
To become your best self, simply be who you are now, and allow yourself to be someone slightly different tomorrow morning.
Allow your butterfly wings to form and feel the strength of them on your back. Let yourself go and take flight.
