Writing Blogs
Anthony Kennedy's Famous Advice on Sales
Letters applies to Blogs as well: Write with Passion, Edit for
Clarity, Shorten, Shorten, Shorten.
Writing online is different than
for magazine, print, eMail, or newsletters. Readers of periodicals
expect to read a medium sized piece. Readers of blogs expect
excellent material packed into a small space. Below the fold means
anything below your monitor screen. Anything below the folk may not
be read. Online readers will only give you about two minutes before
moving on. Here are a couple of quick tips:
Don't self publish. Even a friend
or associate is a better editor than yourself. Have a friend or
associate check for grammar. Ask them to help you shorten your
sentences.
Tell a story. Stories are
remembered long after we forget the rote facts. Keep your story
brief.
Use an image or two, but don't go
overboard. Evan Carmichael doesn't allow them in certain blogs, but
on my own blog, I use at least one image per blog post.
Understand the basics of keyword
strategy, or SEO. Search for free articles about keyword search, and
use keywords in your opening sentence, header and title.
I have other short, brief articles
on Evan Carmichael, simply Text Tagged Article', 'Click', 'Google']);"> Google “Lonny Dunn Evan Carmichael”
