Twitter Advanced Search Tips
Twitter Advanced Tips:
In basic search we explored using Twitter Search to find all tweets using the common word "Tree" by searching for both hash tagged and non hashtagged keywords. Twitter as Text Tagged Article', 'Click', 'Search Engine']);"> Search Engine is much more productive than Facebook for finding information, and is more than a Social Media and Microblogging Site. It is because of the combined nature of social media, and being a mini blog that Twitter is so productive as a Search Engine.
Managing over 125k followers across 12 accounts on Twitter, I have to employ all kinds of tricks and Text Tagged Article', 'Click', 'efficiency']);"> efficiency methods. Average people call me with questions on making themselves more productive, and finding the sweet spot on Social Media.
The faster we come to the realization that Social Media is a long term commitment, and a matter of scheduling time each day for certain tasks, then the faster we become productive.
Some quick Tips:
1. Add some local followers each day by following local people. This will take 5 to ten minutes, and you can expect a follow back return between 10 and 25%. After a week or ten days, unfollow them, they likely have reviewed your profile, and decided that they are never going to follow you, or they are poor list managers, and do not follow back regularly. I have written an article here on Evan Carmichael about Tweepi a free Twitter Management Tool that you can sign up for in two minutes to help you unfollow unproductive tweeps.
2. Understand that according to analytics, research, and anecdotal evidence, Twitter is best at driving traffic to blogs. People like to open links and find what is inside, it's part of the mystique and culture of Twitter, so open a blog and start writing at least once a week. Start with general interest information about your passion.
3. Keep in mind that your Social Media Strategy should involve Meet Ups, Networking Events, and some tangible evidence that it was all worth it.
4. Your Social Media Stategy needs to be about your brand: Enlarging your overall Internet Imprint, Explaining your Specialty, and Outlining your Knowledge or Professional Skills. The world now judges us based upon what it finds on the Internet about us, not what we say, but what the Internet Says we are.
5. Use SocialOomph or TweetDeck to schedule links to your blog posts between 4 and 5PM EST and especially on Friday. If you never use an automated Tweet device ( and I rarely do) at least use it during this time if you are not at your computer. This is the single busiest block of time on Twitter, and there is a great chance of many people seeing your blog post, or event announcement.
6. Be persistent. If you stop at only 500 followers, your audience is too small. Your message is not going to be heard, and there is not enough critical mass for anyone to click open your blog links, and trigger search engine results.
7. Have short term and long range goals, create milestones of progress, and stick with your plan, and if you fail one week, make it up the next week, and you will start to develop relationships, and meaningful rewarding consequences as a result of organized thought.
Twitter without a Blog, or Meetups is almost pointless. Chatting with people half a world away just for fun, or for no reason is wasted time. If there is a purpose behind it, and your intentions are to eventually engage them at some point, then Twitter is a wonderful way to meet hundreds and thousands of people quickly, efficiently, and with great results.
