Twitter Search Commands

Article Overview: Twitter calls their commands "Operators" when using Search. Underrated as a search engine, it is possible to search many ways using a diverse range of tactics. These commands or Operators are taken directly form Twitter's Search Feature.

Twitter Search Commands

Type in the one of the Bold commands or "Operators" below, left to get the corresponding results on right.

You can substitute your own variables of course.



twitter search containing both "twitter" and "search". This is the default operator.



"happy hour" containing the exact phrase "happy hour".



love OR hate containing either "love" or "hate" (or both).

beer -root containing "beer" but not "root".

#haiku containing the hashtag "haiku".



from:alexiskold sent from person "alexiskold".

07-04-2011

to:techcrunch sent to person "techcrunch".



@mashable referencing person "mashable".



"happy hour" near:"san francisco" containing the exact phrase "happy hour" and sent near "san francisco".



near:NYC within:15mi sent within 15 miles of "NYC".

superhero since:2010-12-27 containing "superhero" and sent since date "2010-12-27" (year-month-day).



ftw until:2010-12-27 containing "ftw" and sent up to date "2010-12-27".



movie -scary :) containing "movie", but not "scary", and with a positive attitude.

flight :( containing "flight" and with a negative attitude.

traffic ? containing "traffic" and asking a question.



hilarious filter:links containing "hilarious" and linking to URLs.



news source:twitterfeed containing "news" and entered via TwitterFeed

Re: Using Twitter To Double Your Traffic? - I'm sure in many cases Twitter sends more traffic than Search Engines because most people don't have good enough SE rankings to get SE traffic. But anyone can get Twitter traffic. The problem is that Twitter traffic won't convert for the most part and SE traffic will. I'd venture to say that 98% of the time getting just 100 visitors from search is better than getting 2000+ from Twitter.

Re: Do You Monitor Your Brand On Twitter? - Yes, certainly i check my brand name on Twitter search even i also tried on Google Search. RSS feed is the better option to subscribe for the updates.
Marketing 2012 - I am interested in what works for you in 2012, Social Networking, Search Engine traffic, Blogs, Articles, Forums, what? This is a quote from a 2009 Topic "Twitter, Social Networking, What is your Method? From my experience, social networking traffic (Twitter included) also converts at a far lower rate than search engine traffic. Evan Is this still true, or do you use something that gives us better returns and conversions
