The Right Attitude to Achieve Your Goals
If you want to be truly
successful in how you achieve your goals, then you need to develop the right
habits and attitude that will keep you on track. There are a number of
behaviors to practice in order to discover that more opportunities await all
who maintain the proper attitude and frame of mind. The habits that follow have
been adopted by many of the world’s most productive people throughout history.
Be Industrious
Work smarter and harder;
there are many intelligent people in the world. Intelligence is important and
the quest for learning is critical to success and reaching your goals. But hard
work is equally important to knowledge and smarts; being industrious means that
you are willing to do more than anyone else in pursuit of your goals and
ultimate success. Long hours and dedication are the difference between being
good and becoming great. Whenever you begin a goal determine what you need to
get it done it the least amount of time with a high quality outcome. Then, put
your head down and work until the job is done.
Be Disciplined and Consistent
Discipline is what separates
the leaders from the followers. Most people fail at their goals simply because
they lack the discipline to continue and finish what they start. The average
person is content taking order from someone else so that they can collect a pay
check to pay their bills.
This is not enough to rise
above the ordinary and stand out in the crowd. Ask the tough questions, and
expect your self to answer in the affirmative. What will it take to be
promoted? What do I need to start my own successful business? Meet each
challenge and find solutions one by one. Don’t stop until you reach your goal.
Being consistent simply
requires to treat every goal with a process that enables you to plan how to
achieve your ambitions. Success is a process. This process can be repeated and
repeated time after time. The goal may be different but the process is the
same. Define your goal in detail, decide what resources will be needed, break
the goal into small actions to complete one at a time, set a deadline, and work
harder than anyone else to complete your goal. Rinse and repeat for every goal
you have.
Be Resilient and Flexible
Problems are a part of life,
but it is the resilient person who prevails and achieves their goals. You must to
learn from your past mistakes and adapt to be more productive with each
subsequent effort. Begin to look at mistakes as an opportunity to learn. Take
note of problems and challenges, you never know how helpful this knowledge will
be in the future. Many consultants and business coaches capitalize on past
errors and teach others to avoid them. Learn
to pick yourself up after a fall and re-double your effort to become better.
Flexibility is a great asset
that allows you to adjust when things don’t work according to plan. If you
insist that your plan must be followed you may miss the opportunity to realize
a more successful result. Be open to input from others in order to gain valuable
perspective that you may not see on your own.
Be Optimistic
Always stay positive
regardless of the problems or circumstances. You need to avoid the temptation
to let interruptions or challenges derail you from your work. Practice positive
self talk and be ready to adjust your perspective. When faced with frustration
take walk or read, do something to get your mind off of the task at hand for a
short time. This will often help refocus your attention to find a solution.
Be Patient
Some goals are large in over
all scope, these goals can become daunting if you don’t create a frame of mind
to account for how long it may take. These are the goals that need to be
reduced to many small actions. Treat each completed action as a victory. Also,
it is helpful to define milestones that serve as significant achievements to
the over all completion of your goal.
How do you climb Mount Everest? One step at a time. Each step gets you
closer to the top and when you reach camp for the night you can look back and
see your progress and celebrate the fact that you are undertaking an important endeavor.
I would love to hear how you
keep you attitude high when undertaking a goal.
