First of all, you want to do your homework. Look around online and see what’s available. Be wary of any companies offering free services; they usually come at the cost of support, clean pages, and much more. Free sites also tend to be down more often. In the end, paying for a hosting service might actually wind up costing you less.

Secondly, you’re going to need to think about what it is exactly that you want from your webpage. Is it for business or personal use? How much traffic will you be generating? How much storage will you need? What kind of features do you want to have on your website? And, most importantly, how much support will you need in setting it up? If you’re a relative novice in the world of webpages, you’ll want to get yourself a company that has a 24 hour support line – yes, an actual telephone line – that you can call whenever you get the urge to work on your site.

Finding the best web hosting services for your domain also depends on what you are willing to pay. In most cases, you get what you pay for. As I said above, free sites may be free, but their long term disadvantages could end up costing you more. Meanwhile, many trusted and reliable companies could cost more, but the advantages will be many. Find a company that you know you can trust and see what kind of packages they offer.

No matter what company you decide to go with, make sure you read the fine print of whatever contract you enter into. There will be clauses about refunds and reliability that you need to make sure you read. Will you get credited if your site is down for a long period of time? Are there any setup fees that aren’t being talked about? Is it possible to get out of your contract before it’s up and what are the consequences of doing so?

Look into hosting directories and forums to see what past reviews of the companies have been. Are they positive/negative? Are the companies even mentioned at all? In this case, a no mention is as bad as a negative mention, since it means nobody knows about them and they’re not getting any business. There is probably a reason for that that they are not telling you.
