Low Cost Web Hosting
Low Cost Web Hosting
Clients are constantly asking me which is the cheapest website hosting provider and how they can get an online presence for as little as possible. While I could no doubt provide them with a list of companies promising to take you to the top for as little as one dollar a month, I don’t. Instead, what I do is warn them about the advantages and disadvantages of being too cheap.
I’m all for saving money and trying to find the best deal possible, but when it comes to my website, I’m willing to go a step above. My website is the number one way for my customers to reach me and I’m not about to present them with something sub-par. After all, if they think my website is of poor quality, what are they going to think about the services that I’m offering?
Low cost web hosting is ok for those just looking to put up personal sites about their dog or to share vacation photos. But for the serious entrepreneur, I’d recommend putting in a little extra money to make sure you’ll be coming out with a superior product.
What happens if your web hosting company goes out of business or even goes down for an extended period of time? What will happen to your own company then? Will your customers understand and come back the next day, or will you lose their business forever? Personally, that’s a risk I’m not willing to take. I want my website up and running 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and I’ll pay whatever it takes to make sure it is.
Now, not every reputable company is going to charge an arm and a leg for their services. There are still good deals to be found out there. All I’m suggesting is that you don’t only focus on the bottom line here. There is a lot more to take into consideration when building your website than getting the cheapest rate possible.
Low cost web hosting can result in a number of problems that will wind up costing you more in the long run: decreased services, bankruptcy, poor quality, and so on. Before making a decision and signing up with any company, try visiting a few of the more popular online forums such as WebHostingTalk or WebHostDirectory. Check out what other people’s experiences have been with any of the companies you’re considering. Chances are you’ll find much more of the kind of information you’re looking for on those sites than on the company’s own.

As entrepreneurs, we all have to be wary of our bottom line. By and large, I am of the belief that it’s never smart to spend more than you’re bringing in. That being said, however, there comes a time, especially during our startup days, when it’s time to take a risk, to spend a little extra money in the hopes that it will bring you a bigger return. Here, especially, I am talking about low cost web hosting.
