Shared Web Hosting

Are you new to the online hosting scene and wondering what shared web hosting is all about? This article is here to help you understand the basics of a virtual hosting service in the hopes that by the end, you will be able to make a more informed decision about what is right for you and your online needs.

At its heart, this type of hosting service is where many websites are all hosted on one web server that is connected to the Internet. Each has its own section on the server that is separate from other sites, but sharing allows for a more economical option since all of the website owners pool their resources to share the costs of the server and its maintenance.

Besides the economic benefit of saving money, what this type of hosting service also allows for is shared system administration. What that means is that the administration of the server as a whole is shared by all of the users. So, for those who don’t want to deal with the hassles of any of that, they don’t have to; they can just pass off their responsibilities to the users who are more technologically interested and inclined. On the other hand, for those users who do want greater control, this type of sharing is usually not ideal since it places greater restrictions on them than they would otherwise like.

There are thousands of shared web hosting service providers across the U.S. and Canada. Each is responsible for the management of the servers, installation of software, security, and so on, so even if you know nothing about Linux, Plesk, SQL, or the like, you should be ok.

If you’re a small business owner and you’re concerned about not going over a limited budget, then this type of service would be ideal for you. Often times, newbies are worried about security and performance issued on a shared server, but most reliable web hosting providers would never compromise on that sort of thing. They’re also monitored around the clock so you can be assured of high uptime percentages. After all, the more times they have problems, the more clients they will have breathing down their necks.

There are, however, some disadvantages that should e noted. First of all, because the sever space is being shared, there will inevitably be slower response times than as if you were on a dedicated server. Now, this doesn’t mean slow response times – only slower, relatively speaking, and most websites can handle that.

Another drawback of shared web hosting is when it comes to getting banned by search engines. All it takes is one bad website and your shared IP address will be banned from the likes of Google. You can pay extra to get a dedicated IP address to avoid that problem, but then again, it depends on your available budget.

Before you make your decision, make sure you’re well informed about both the pros and cons. For more information, visit 1 and 1 Internet.

Re: Top 10 Young Entrepreneurs Re: Top 10 Young Entrepreneurs - I notice a trend with most of those young entrepreneurs. They started an entertainment-related business that has skyrocketed in popularity. From YouTube, to Runescape, to Gaming, to File Hosting - all are the most popular brands of their kind. If these young bucks can do it, it gives us old geezers a glimmer of hope!
Managing Your Website Managing Your Website - Hi Beat I know what you are talking about when you say it could be a frustrating experience. I would recommend to every business owner to find a website partner who can handle the Website Design/SEO/Hosting by themselves while still at a reasonable cost to your business. This is the most economical way to operate the online side of your business if you are unsure about it. I actually do this for a few clients myself and all I do is send them a bill every year for hosting/seo but if there are any problems its up to me to call the hosting company to find out what's wrong as well as keep them high ranking for particular keywords. If anyone else has found it difficult with their website, hosting or the management of any online services please post your feedback here and I'll try to advise your best option.
Successful Website Successful Website - Hi TheAnonymousMan, It has been very interesting to read all these postes. Your recommendation is to find a website partner who can handle the website design, keywords, SEO, Hosting etc. Your suggestion is helpful, but how can you find a good partner. When you help someone, do you give instructions as how to do it, so that in the end he will be able to do it himself. Your charge is in Australian Dollars, I presume and it is quite reasonable. I am sure one can contact a local company, but the fees could be much bigger here in England. Do you talk on Skype and help like that? Recently I learned that there are too many people out there, wanting to achieve great success and get ensnared with so many programs and information. The result is that the 'head knowledge' has increased, without getting down to do it. We need more hands on and do it, even do it afraid. Finally, how can I find someone like you here in the UK? Kindest Regards Beat "Unlock People's Potentials!"
