Small Business Web Hosting

So you’ve got a business and you want to take it online? Well, despite how simple many websites look, looks can be deceiving. From starting up a website and designing it to maintaining it, it’s never as easy as it looks. But don’t get too scared. In the article below, I’ll outline some of the most basic small business web hosting tips that are sure to get you started off on the right foot.

First of all, choose a strong domain name. Some people think choosing the right domain name is mostly hype and it’s really the content of your site that matters. Well, I’m not one of those people. I firmly believe in the importance of choosing the right domain name for you. And, you will want to choose a hosting provider that gives you the freedom to decide that.

Use a keyword selector tool to determine the levels of popularity of words pertaining to your business. You should try to pick a domain name that reflects some of the strongest key words. Also, don’t limit your keywords to just your domain and think that is enough. Try to pepper those keywords throughout your website – in the title, description, and the rest of the content. But, be careful about keyword stuffing – using too many words repeatedly. That will only get you in trouble with the search engines.

Secondly, make sure you’re aware of the more technical side of things of small business web hosting. For instance, how much bandwidth are you going to need? How much do you expect your site to grow in the future and how will that affect your needs? Also, think about the speed of the server that you’re going to need. Is your site going to be image-heavy? With too many images, even a small website can take ages to load and you could risk losing your valuable visitors. I know I would personally never return to a website that has either one of two things: popup ads or a long loading time.

Finally, think about your email needs. How many different email addresses are you going to want? Again, think about how your business might grow in the future, and any additional staff you might bring on. Are you going to give each of them their own email account? It’s always better to plan ahead since you don’t want to limit yourself this early in the game. And, how much email storage will you have available to you and how much are going to need? Do you really want to be concerned about which emails to save and which to delete because you don’t have enough to keep them all?

It’s important to decide where you want to spend your time in all of this. Small business web hosting can be time consuming and only worth the time if you both enjoy doing it and know what you’re doing. It might just be worth your while to hire a professional developer to help you on your way.
