There are a myriad of web design hosting companies out there that can offer an equally astounding number of services and features. That is why, unless you are clear about what you want your website to be and how you want to portray your company, you are going to be overwhelmed. Here are some of my basic tips that will help you develop a clear and consistent website no matter what hosting company or package you sign up for.
First of all, you need to be clear on your focus. What purpose is your website going to serve? Is it going to be an e-commerce site and sell products? It is going to be an organizational site and serve as a one-stop information shop. Is it going to be a social networking community? The more roles you see your website having the harder it is going to be to design and maintain it, and the more confusing it will be to your visitors.
The second factor you need to consider in determining how your website should be constructed is who your target audience is. Depending on the demographic you’re trying to attract, you will need to design your site very differently. For instance, the thing a senior citizen might look for is clarity of information, while a teenager might want lots of graphics and special effects.
Thirdly, in both choosing a web design hosting company and designing your site, you will need to asses the time and resources you have available to you. What is your budget and is there any room to go over? How much time do you have to devote to this project and what is your level of expertise? Do you enjoy designing layout and such or is it something you will be struggling to get through.
If you decide to rely on professional help, make sure to do your homework about who you hire. I don’t just mean in terms of their qualifications, although you should definitely check those out too. What I mean is that you need to find someone that you’re comfortable working with. Do they understand your vision? Are they willing to accept your own ideas and adapt them to what they have in mind? Are they professional?
Once your website is up and running, you can’t just let it sit there. Expecting people to find your website just like that is like asking them to find a needle in a haystack; it’s not going to happen. You need to be proactive and seek out your visitors. How you can do that is by engaging in an aggressive marketing strategy. Send out press releases, optimize your site for the search engines, or advertise in your local media. Hire a marketing professional if you need to, but make sure you get the word out there.
From finding a web design hosting company to getting people to find your site, the world of e-commerce is a tricky one. For more information, visit 1 and 1 Internet.
