Web Hosting Support
If you’ve got a potential hosting company in mind, test out their customer support before you sign up with them. How do you do that? Do what I did and call them first. Do they answer when they say they will? Do they put you on hold for hours at a time? Are you treated in the quick manner that you expected? If they don’t meet your expectations, drop them now. Move on to the next company. It’s better to find out sooner rather than later that they can’t give you the kind of support you need. (It’s also fun to call up that same company’s sales department and see how fast they respond to you then.)
Even if you don’t have any kind of technical problems, you could also shoot the company an email and see how fast they respond to it, or if they respond to it at all. That is especially important if no phone number is provided on their website. That will really let you know what kind of web hosting support you can expect.
A third thing you can do is check out past customer reviews and see how satisfied other people were with the support they received from the company. In doing this, however, make sure you avoid hosting directories. These are all paid listings so what you’re reading is probably not going to be true. A better bet is to use a search engine to look up the company’s name. If they’ve been around for any significant amount of time, a number of customer reviews should pop up in the search results.
In trying to find a hosting company, you might be looking for things like cost and different kinds of services offered. Sure, those are important too. But I’d be willing to pay a few extra dollars a month in order to ensure that someone will be on hand when I need them. If your site is down and you can’t get a hold of anyone at the company, every minute could be costing you valuable customers.

I’ve had to change web hosting companies on more than one occasion simply due to the fact that I wasn’t getting the kind of web hosting support that I needed. Once, I had a simple technical problem that needed little more than a yes or a no answer from the customer service representatives, but my attempts to even reach the company went in vain. First, I called, but the 1-800 number I was given – the one that was supposed to be 24/7 support – did not work. Then, I emailed, but those too were fruitless. In the end, switching companies cost me more than it should have. This article is to help you avoid going down the same path I did.
