Top 5 Ways to Network Effectively at a Meeting

Top 5 Ways to Network Effectively at a Meeting

1. Make friends with the people sitting near you. If you already know them, solidify the relationship. Otherwise, sit next to people you’d like to meet.

2. Arrive early – staying late is tougher since many people have to run out immediately after the meeting.

3. Ask someone you know to introduce you to someone new they are speaking with.

4. Use down time effectively. This could mean speaking to another person in the restroom (I met a potential client this way) or standing in a buffet line (I met another client this way).

5. Give people a reason to be in contact with them. Just handing someone a business card isn’t enough. For me, it’s my free newsletter. I offer something of value, while not being all over them. It may be a discount card that you offer for a restaurant or skin care, or a free consultation. Or offer a lead or a potential lead.
