Blogging for an international audience
Trying to appeal to an international audience or already have international readers of your blog? Then this is a topic worth visiting to learn how you can ensure that your blog appeals to your readers from the UK and other international destinations! Here are a few things to consider whether you’re a US business trying to have more worldwide appeal, or you’re an international business trying to appeal to that core target audience:
1. Use the right verbiage – as I mentioned before, one thing that you need to do is make sure you’re familiar with is the English spelling of terms that is used by your international audience. In most cases, this means using British/Canadian English and throwing in a few of those extra letters that it relies upon! This will ensure that as queries are made by that international audience they find you. 2. Consider a translator – not everyone in our big wide world speaks English. WordPress actually makes a translator plugin that you can add!
3. Look at the trends and current news – while there are some topics that are universally interesting, geography plays a role. It’s always wise to incorporate some reference to a hot topic in any blog post, so make sure that you stay in the know with whatever’s happening when your audience resides.
4. Incorporate their humor – if it’s appropriate on your blog, incorporate a little bit of international humor and slang. You might need to get in touch with your inner Austin Powers to write for the British, for example!
Writing for an international audience isn’t so different than writing for those that reside in the same country. You’ve just got to think about what appeals to them!
