Finding inspiration when the well runs dry
Whether you’re a writer or not, finding the time to sit down and
write is hard, especially if you’re running your own business. Finding inspiration for writing can be even harder. If you aren’t a writer by
trade, you do have the opportunity to decide exactly when and where you
want to write for your blog – but there are some things that can help
you prime the pump.
- Read. If you aren’t in the mood to write, I’ve often found that reading things loosely related to whatever I’m planning to write about can be helpful. It gets you thinking and you may just feel compelled to “respond’ to it.
- Find your creative time. You can’t force yourself to write, so tap into that creative hour where you’re feeling the right focus to get an article written for your blog. Try writing at different times during the day (or early morning) and see when your creative juices flow the most freely! I’ll let you in on my secret – it’s 1:30 am on a Monday morning as I type this.
- Set a schedule. Although it’s important to have a creative time, your blog schedule cannot depend entirely upon your level of inspiration to write. Establish a consistent post schedule on your business blog is important for developing your readership, but it also helps the creative process.
- Remember why you’re blogging. – Don’t forget what fresh blog content may do for your business in terms of search engine traffic, online credibility, etc. Remembering all the benefits of blogging will help you find that spark!
