Turning your blog into a marketing tool
Marketers understand blogging is one of the best ways to reach out to
their target audience. It has become an efficient way to share updates,
news and other information to your customers and prospects. It is also a
great way to share thoughts on issues as well. Although it will never
replace the power of the telephone for one-on-one communication,
blogging wins hands down for communicating to the masses in a cost
effective manner.
A blog site sitting along side your main website lets you as a
business owner boost your online presence. It’s an opportunity to share
your company’s latest news, events and what’s happening in the industry.
The problem is, many set out and never seem to get the readership
required for it to really be of benefit to the business.
Now, let’s just say that you already have set up your blog and have
even started posting content. What are you doing to let your target
audience know about it? What have you done to increase your blog
readership? Nothing? Sadly, that’s the answer most people give.
Here are a few pointers to help you turn your blog into a powerful marketing strategy:
Leverage the online ‘real estate’ you already own.
Make use of your existing corporate website if you have one and
promote your blog. Promote your blog, everywhere you can for example
your email footers, Facebook page and Twitter page.
Keep your blog posting consistent.
The logic behind this is straightforward. The people who follow your
blog will learn about the topics covered and know when to come back for
more fresh content they are interested in. The more blog articles you
post, the higher the chances of your readers coming back for more.
Search engines will also love it and send more traffic your way. Search
engines are hungry for fresh content, thus increasing your page rank.
Look for opportunities to provide guest blog posts.
Look for blog sites that complement your business. Ask the owners of
these sites if you could provide guest posts for them. If you are given
the permission to do so, offer information that is relevant and useful
for the readers. This will help establish your presence as an authority
in your niche.
Make sure your RSS Feed link is easy to find.
Customers or prospects who find your blog interesting may want to
subscribe to it through an RSS feed or through email. Make sure they can
do this easily. It is best if you can position your RSS feed button
near the top of your website.
Link your most recent post to past posts.
If you have captured the interest of your target audience with a
post, they may be interested to read other articles you have posted. If
you supply them with links to these previous posts right there on the
page, they will be more likely to click through and read more of your
content.
These are just a few of the many things you can do to promote your
blog site for increased readership. There are other tools you can use
such as social networks, social bookmarking sites and even your print
based material. Just keep in mind that in blogging, the most important
thing is to provide what your target market is looking for. Fill their
need, listen to what they have to say and share what is on your mind. In
time, you will build a strong readership of people who are interested
in what you do and possibly share your information with others, turning
your blog into a powerful marketing tool.

Re: pitching
- Friendliness is closely related to the concept of "permission marketing" as articulated by Seth Godin. The subtitle of his book says it all:
"Permission Marketing: Turning Strangers into Friends and Friends into Customers."
The old method was "interruption marketing" where you suddenly get an ad in your face whether you want it or not...
Autoresponder v Blog Feed Subscriptions...
- Hi folks,
Autoresponders are a vital online tool for building and communicating with your list. But they are not the only tool for getting subscribers...
Another tool is your blog feed, and just as with an autoresponder, you can post a sign up box on your site to get people to subscribe to your blog feed.
If everything else is equal, I have a feeling that people might be more willing to sign up to a blog than to join a list. For one thing, most autoresponder forms are set up to require both name and email address whereas a blog feed only requires an email address.
Also, inviting someone to join a blog feed seems "self explanatory" whereas some kind of inducement or justification is needed when asking someone to join a mailing list.
The only problem with blog feeds is that (as far as I know) you don't get a list of subscribers' email addresses.
However, using a blog feed to get subscribers could be a good first step to building a relationship with your website visitors... You can then post various list building offers as blog posts to get your blog subscribers to further commit and opt in to one or another of your lists. That might also make your respective lists more responsive (because more closely targeted and qualified).
What do you think? And what do you do?
Thanks,
DH
Successful Blog Marketing Tips
- So you have a blog and want to market it and make it a successful blog. How do you do this? How do you go about getting your blog out there to be seen and known by others? How do you draw readers and keep them coming back for more? There are many ways to get your blog out there and known by others. This can be known as challenging for some and just quite easy for others. If you have ever had a successful blog before then you know what it takes. You are not going to get anywhere by just setting up a blog and hoping that people will find it and read it. You are not going to gain any links, nor a higher search engine ranking by just having a blog. This is all part of blog marketing. Anyone can do it, even you.
Successful blog marketing tip number one. When you first create a blog, of course it is unheard of. No one knows anything about the blog unless you give them the link and show it to them. However, for a new blog that has never been seen, there are many ways to get it out there and known. You just need to know how. The first thing that you can do is to allow RSS feeds be taken from your blog. Allow other websites and blogs to publish your same exact blog. When you do this, they are giving you a link back to your blog, and also telling their readers all about your blog. You will get more traffic than ever with this tool. RSS feeds are wonderful for promoting and getting your blog out there.
Blog marketing tip number two. Update your blog frequently. We can not put enough emphasis on this tip. If you tell your readers that you are going to update your blog daily, then do it. If you tell them that you will be writing in your blog weekly, don’t let them down. Your readers are what makes your blog successful. You may not realize this in the beginning, and you will have few readers in the beginning as well, but you will eventually build a readership base and have people checking out your blog regularly. Maybe you do not plan on telling your readers how often you will update your blog. That is ok too. However, think about this, if you were reading a blog on a weekly basis, and you expected to see the blog that you like to read updated at least once a week, you would be very disappointed to find out that it was not. Sure, things happen that might prevent you from updating, and that is expected, and excused, but week after week can hurt you and cause you to lose readers.
Tip number three. While you are working on your readership base, and trying to gain readers, you are going to find that commenting on blogs that are relevant to yours will surely help. Find a blog that is on the same topic to yours, or close to it and leave comments. You can also make a track back with your blog postings to comment on your own blog. Doing so will probably more than likely give someone else the urge to track back to your blog. Which will be good for it as well. Commenting on blogs that get many comments will make yours be seen by those interested in that market. You will gain traffic and readers that way, and it is easy as well as free.
The fourth blog marketing tip. Learn and apply SEO to your blogs. SEO is search engine optimization. You are going to find that if you want your blog to go anywhere, you need SEO, and you need to know how to use it to the advantage of your blog. Just like a website, a blog will be better off optimized.
Re: Promoting Videos On YouTube.com - Tube ToolBox
- Hi,
Yes, YouTube.com is a great way to promote a message. Google loves youtube.com (they should they own them) and it is another way to show that social media marketing is the wave of the future....
But my question is do you think this product, Tube Toolbox, is a good marketing tool. To me it looks like an early attempt for black hat marketers to use & abuse YouTube.com to send spam to users. The whole point of the tool is to contact people in bulk on YouTube.com.
Isn't it a shame that people that call themselves marketers do this?
Re: The Best Method for Online Marketing
- Using multiple marketing methods is best. Remember though, Marketing is a process and all processes should be tracable. It's good to have each online tool you use point to eachother and your main website. For example. Start a blog on blogger.com. Blogs usually act as an organic SEO and you'll find your blog at the top of google search results provided you use the right key words within your blog title and content. The blog should not be a selling tool. It should be informative to draw attention and have people coming back to learn more, but you should always have your blog point towards your selling tools, especially your website. People love to share good reads, get new contacts by ensuring that your written material is approved to be shared by you, ask people to email you if they want to share what you wrote and to give credit to (Name + website). Now for every contact that asks to share your material, you will be able to track the results and if they turn into customers, you can calculate and ROI for your time. facebook/twitter. Start a promotion campaign, Tell people that if they invite 5 people to your facebook page, they can recieve a special offer for them and the 5 people that they referred. Ask them to message you on facebook for a special promo code. Make any code you want, but this gives you the chance to track the results of this campaign. Post on free classifieds sites. Every paid website has an equally effective free site.
