Do you have effective key messages?

In PR we are always going on about key messages. We use them in everything from prepping for a media interview through to writing websites and corporate brochures. But what are they? Key messages are the core message you want your target audiences to hear and remember. They are really important because they allow you to control communications and enhance relationships with your target audiences.

Key messages are designed to work out what you really need to get across on the topic to the audiences. They are what you must say and get across in the communication situation - irrespective of what questions the audience asks - particularly in a media interview.

For a business, key messages are an extension of the elevator statement you use at a networking function- and you should have around seven messages that are:

• believable - support with evidence

• easy to understand - reflect stakeholders understanding

• distinctive - clear competitive awareness

• agreed - company strategy

• credible - know your stuff

• Drive your agenda

• Enhance positively

• Use the brand

Re: Where you can get an ipad2 3G for $5 Re: Where you can get an ipad2 3G for $5 - Hi Trent, Today I sent out some emails to a list of affiliates and noticed that about 10% of them had set up auto responses with messages offering me an ipad for next to "nothing"... I hadn't received - or noticed - those messages before now...
My Space My Space - My Space is another promotional tool, but it takes time, effort and tact. I like the fact that it helps me find people who have specific interests and it offers private messenging options, web page comment options, a blog, and a bulletin board posting option. Lots of interesting ways to get in touch with people - but that doesn't mean its all right to send spam messages. There are too many other effective ways to use the space. Chris
Re: Do emails count? Re: Do emails count? - [quote="BuzzAroundBooks.com":3ov3pks3] Hi litekepr, What about working with someone based on a verbal contract with emails/private messages to outline the working conditions and prove that there was some sort of agreement made? Can emails or private messages constitute as legally binding agreements or do all "written agreements" require signatures from both parties?[/quote:3ov3pks3] I just went through this with a psycho client. He said many things in emails that proved my side of the case and when I forwarded these messages to his attorney, she dropped him. I kept all his emails so that I can send them as a whole document instead of copying and pasting the info into another file. I kept telling him that it was critical to be careful what you put in writing. It protected me and ended his dreams of suing me without justification. His messages also proved that I was right to be concerned for my safety. Many of my contracts are in emails and I keep a print copy of each one in my client contract folders. Shri
Twitter direct messages qustion Twitter direct messages qustion - For those of you using Twitter I have a question for you! I've turned on the auto-follow option so I automatically follow anybody who follows me. However, so many of these people have the automatic welcome message thanking me for following them that I miss many of the real direct messages that people are sending. I have everything come to my Outlook. Has anyone figured out a strategy to split the messages that are an auto-respond versus those that are real?
Re: Twitter vs Facebook Re: Twitter vs Facebook - Depends. Facebook is larger but still not as suitable for making as many contacts. Someone with a few hundred friends can have 40,000 followers on Twitter. Facebook is great for more detailed messages but nothing beats Twitters efficiency when it comes to exchanging micro-messages. The only thing I can really say is about privacy. Facebook seems not to work to protect it (or sells it) so you need to be careful what you say about your company. Twitter can be made private (default if public) but you don't have to worry as much about giving away too much info either.
