10 New Year's Internet Video Resolutions for the Family and Home Enthusiast

by Mark Shapiro, Internet Video Magazine

1. I am going to start using my tripod. Really, I promise. Everyone is sick of my videos jumping up and down like a seasick sailor. I bought that darn tripod and now I am going to use it. I don’t care how much it weighs or how dorky I look. And if I forget to use the tripod, at least I will make sure I use the camcorder's image stabilizer. OK? I promise....

2. I am going to charge my camcorder's batteries before a family event. Never again am I going to get stuck in the middle of a kid’s birthday party with no juice. And if the camcorder uses regular batteries, I will make sure I bring new fresh ones.

3. I am going to edit my videos. My computer has video editing software in it that will enable me to cut out the bad parts and quit subjecting my family and friends to outtakes and shots of my feet because I forgot to turn the camcorder off. I am going to edit those parts out. I really am. I promise. Maybe I will even edit in a funny voice over or captions.... I am warning you now.

4. I am going to learn how to share my videos over YouTube. No longer am I going to make promises and then never do it. This goes hand in had with editing. I think putting a bunch of short two to three minute videos on YouTube is going to work just fine.

5. I will learn to label my video DVDs, video cards and videotapes correctly. Even those tiny little Digital Video cassettes with no space at all to write what the tape is all about. I am going to come up with a plan or at least my kids will.

6. I am going to back up my videos. Good raw video as well as my edited videos. I have a couple external drives and now I am going to start using them. Because - as with any computer, it is not a matter if a hard drive will fail, it is a matter of when...

7. I am going to leave the camcorder out on the mantle so that the family can use it whenever it is needed, rather than having to dig it out from the closet, find the batteries and hope it all works before that special moment disappears forever.

8. No more zooming. I have learned my lesson. I am not going to zoom in and out and drive everyone crazy. I promise to physically move my camcorder in closer to everyone's faces for those close-ups.

9. No more silly comments while videotaping. I promise to never tell people to smile or act natural again. And I promise, no more chasing the kids around the house too early in the morning. Yes I think its cute to see them in their pajamas but they may be permanently damaged - especially when I insist on showing the video clips to their potential dates. And no uploading to their FaceBook or MySpace pages.

Finally, I am going to let my girl friend and kids operate the camcorder.

We don’t want the family to be watching the videos ten years from now and saying, “Where’s Daddy? Anybody remember what daddy looked like before he got chubby and all his hair fell out?”

Is it possible to save the recordings I record with Camtasia into another format so they will work on Windows Movie Maker?[/quote:3og0rosu] Absolutely. Just save the recording as an AVI or MPEG and then load it into Windows Movie Maker and edit from there. Of course, Camtasia provides some nice editing tools as well.
Re: Poll: Video Marketing Online, Do you use it? Re: Poll: Video Marketing Online, Do you use it? - Here's the key: get started! My first videos were pretty bad - they were shaky, the lighting was terrible, I was nervous. And they slowly got better. I researched a better camera, I picked up some better lighting, and with practice my deliver got better as well. I started off using Windows Movie Maker. Then I used a combination of Movie Maker and Camtasia. Now I outsource everything through oDesk. My old video as almost embarrassing as I look back on them but if I didn't get started with those I wouldn't be where I am today. Get started!

Re: Create your own small business reality show Re: Create your own small business reality show - [quote="ideasuniversity":3runjswv]You can create your own video with camtasia about your product or use the free camstudio. Just do a brief presentation of your company with Microsoft power point and record it with camstudio and turn it into flv file.[/quote:3runjswv] If you are a beginner Windows Movie Maker is good enough, I used it for personal videos, birthdays and school so why not on business, but it is not on my "right now to do" list.
Re: Working with Camtasia Re: Working with Camtasia - I absolutely love Camtasia. It's easy to use, and the features are amazing. You can produce your video in many different formats, including flash. As ideasuniversity said, you can create a web page with the video already built in with it's own player. I usually save it as an .avi, then convert it to .mpg to save on the file size, then upload it to YouTube. Very versatile. I was lucky enough to get it free when they were offering version 3 from their site. I use it now all the time. I like it better than Windows Movie Maker. The screen capture is great for creating tutorial videos. Just get yourself a microphone and start recording. Load video clips and edit and produce a new video. The new version is even more advanced. Overall I couldn't be happier with it. Alan
