1. Make a list of your three key points and try to stay on message.
2. Speak slowly and give brief answers to questions.
3. Tell a reporter what you think is the most important point you've made.
4. Practice answering questions in advance and have your PR firm prep the reporter with appropriate leading questions.
5. Realize that it's okay to be nervous; anxiety can actually add vigor and clarity to your thoughts--and, besides, everybody gets nervous.
6. Remember that reporters want stories, as well as data.
7. Use the phrase "As you know..." to make sure you don't talk down to your audience and to get them to more readily accept facts you don't have time to explain in great detail.
8. Warm up your voice before your interview. (Sing to your dog or in the hotel shower)
9. Eliminate insider jargon and acronyms from your speech.
10. And most importantly, don't worry about being a "media personality." Be yourself.
