Public Relations More than just media releases

What a lot of people don’t realise is just how big a role public relations should play in their business, and how much easier PR consultants can make their life by tackling a very wide range of tasks.

For many of our clients, we say that if it’s something to do with communications, we can handle it, or we know someone who can! We act as a one-stop shop - taking over the supervision of a variety of tasks other than just looking after the media coverage.

This can be anything from organising the artwork and printing of brochures, newsletters or flyers, to booking a photographer for a launch function or some people or product photos, to involving an expert in planning a radio advertising schedule.

All of these aspects of a company’s communication are just as important as the media releases and articles, and the advantage of our involvement comes from the consistency that is achieved across all areas, and the hassle we take away from clients in chasing the printer or getting photography quotes.

At the other end of the scale, PR should be involved as much as possible in high-level planning and discussion so that we can put forward a communications strategy that fits, and can tailor the PR activities accordingly.

PR works best when it’s put through its paces at all levels of involvement… and so do we!

Re: 3 Ways to Grow Your Business in 2011 Re: 3 Ways to Grow Your Business in 2011 - Hi David, I've had a lot of success by building my own media list and then emailing out the reporters when I have a story. I've also used PR Leads (paid program) which got me into the New York Times and Forbes. I haven't done much with online press releases - from what I hear they can help you with your SEO but they don't get much mainstream media attention. Let me know if you have any specific questions and I'd be happy to help!

It's a very comprehensive overview. I was interested in your comments about leveraging the media. What do you recommend as a good way for leveraging the media on the Internet? Posting press releases? If so, do you have any specific tips? Is there something else that we should be doing? Thanks. DH
