WHY THE F*** WOULD I WANT A BLOG?

I've often thought this and wondered whether it's not just a colossal waste of time.

How could my inane ramblings be of interest to anyone, particularly if I was talking about my company?!

Who would give a flying f*** about turnover figures, contract wins and taking on new staff?

It's not that my company and my day-to-day life is not interesting - far from it. In fact I love it and have a real passion for my work.

But there's so much weird and wonderful stuff on the web I just don't see why anyone would spend time reading about me!

In all honesty that's not really the point though. Writing a blog every day, week or month is not designed to have loads of people reading it - this is what everyone (me included) needs to get their head around.

Blogging has a huge impact on your search engine rankings. Google in particular loves sites which regularly refresh their content.

He finds them interesting. And he rewards sites he finds interesting. (Not sure why I've called Google a 'he' by the way - perhaps that's a debate for another day.)

And he also likes sites which use keywords - the terms people search for on the web. In my case it would be 'pr company in Staffordshire' or summat similar.

Finding out what your keywords are may take a bit of research, or some investment, but it will all be worthwhile once you know what they are. (Disclaimer: these also change from time to time so you need to keep an eye on it.)

So - if you change your blog often and use your keywords, your site will naturally head for position one on Google.

And then inadvertently more people will be reading your blog, keeping your site on page one - ironic eh?
