Keep your website content fresh with a blog – 5 tips on where to find topic ideas
One of the key aspects that Google’s algorithms look for when deciding which websites to deliver in a search result is fresh content. Many businesses choose to incorporate a blog in to their website as a way of making sure it has something new for Google to index on a weekly basis. Additionally, blog posts can attract people to link to them via social media, from other websites or through virally spread emails – make sure they are full of attention-grabbing and interesting information and are also useful to customers, clients or other professionals in the same industry.
However, when you have to write one or two pieces of content a week it can be difficult to know where to start. Here are a few tips about where to find ideas for content –
1.Your office. Not all companies like their day to day business being written about on the web but giving staff the opportunity to write is often brings a personal touch to a blog. External people might not link to the content but you can encourage staff to share it with their friends and contacts through social media
2.Other blogs. Look for other blogs in the same industry and see what they are talking about - you might want to agree or disagree with their opinion. To create a rounded argument, link to the post that has inspired you and also to other sites that may back up your argument. Visit Technorati to find blogs you may want to follow
3.Google News. Try some searches related to your business and see what news has been released around the world. Not only could this give you an idea about a blog topic but it could also give you an idea for your own PR or insights into some of your competitors
4.Social Media. If your business has a Facebook or Twitter account, take advantage of what’s hot in the world of social networking. This could be a trending topic that is related to your business on Twitter or a change to the way Facebook works, for example its new message service, and how this might affect the way you use the site
5.Article sites. You’re reading this article now so maybe it will inspire you to write your own blog topic ideas and use them in a blog post. Search through EvanCarmichael Articles and other similar sites for opinions and ideas you might not have considered.
