It is a popular New Year’s resolution for millions of people, alongside losing weight and giving up bad habits, saving money is an important lifestyle change for many to make. Consumers should start thinking outside the box when it comes to sticking with their saving resolution this year with the help of social media sites Facebook and Twitter.
This article is going to examine Facebook and Twitter and explain how consumers can best utilise them to help save money in 2012. These popular networking sites are filled with money saving opportunities, it is just a matter of knowing how and where to find them.
Facebook – Consumers should start by ‘Liking’ different voucher pages, for example Groupon UK has a brand page in which it regularly posts discount codes and suggestions, as does VoucherCodes.co.uk and so on. The discounts that these pages offer will appear in newsfeeds, giving inspiration and ideas to users who might not have considered checking the website itself. Another useful tip is that these pages also enable real-time customer service, so if a Facebook user is looking to get a discount code for a specific site they are able to post their query on the branded page and a customer service agent for the company will respond. Equally, a fellow consumer may also comment on an enquiry with either a link to the requested discount or they may also offer suitable alternatives. These money-saving communities are hugely useful for people looking to save on the pennies this year, and are also a great way to offer advice to those in the same situation.
Twitter – The micro-blogging site is often difficult to navigate but there is a useful tip to follow in order to find discounts on products. Use the Twitter search bar and look for suitable hashtags such as ‘#voucher’ or ‘#discount’ – users that are looking for deals on specific products can also search by using the terms they need such as ‘#voucher food’ or ‘#discount fashion.’ This tip is handy because there are so many Twitter profiles on the site that it is often difficult for users to be aware of all of them, so doing a search when required is a useful way of searching Twitter quickly and efficiently. Another easy thing to do on Twitter that will help users stay thrifty in 2012 is simply following voucher profiles such as @MyVoucherCodes or @Voucher_Monster which will suggest discounts and automatically appear in Twitter feeds without having to carry out any searches.
