Although an increasing number of brands are developing a presence on social media sites including Facebook, many struggle with fan acquisition. It is important for brands to be aware that in order to gain a following on social media sites and maintain the interest of these fans, they must ensure they provide a variety of different updates.
Uploading content is one thing, but in order to guarantee an improved level of engagement, brands must consider a varied approach to content. Below are three examples of what brands can be doing on Facebook in order to maintain and even potentially increase engagement levels.
1) Images - A fantastic way of capturing people's attention, images should accompany all written post, they should be good quality and complement the text that they sit next to. An image can also be used as an engaging piece of content in itself, for example greetings cards retailer Clinton Cards regularly posts images to its Facebook page containing a number of soft toys, asking fans to guess how many they can spot in the picture - a simple yet fun and easy way to get fans talking.
2) Videos - Posting videos on Facebook is a great way of mixing up the style of content; it will keep followers interested and will prevent them from simply skimming over some plain text. The video has to be relevant to the brand, or at least tie-in somehow and be something that a brands key audience will be interested in. This will potentially lead to post ‘Shares' as well as ‘Likes' and ‘Comments.'
3) Polls - Asking Facebook followers quick surveys and polls is a great way of continuing engagement because the action that the follower needs to take is minimal. Asking a Facebook ‘Question' is a simple way that brands can take yet the response has the potential to be very big. All fans have to do is click on a preferred answer, this will then feed into their Facebook ticker which will be seen my their Facebook friends, leading to the question going wider than the brands initial fan base.
