Making the most of your search engine optimisation activity
When planning a successful marketing campaign, online visibility is important. Optimising your website for search engines, such as Google, by incorporating a keyword strategy enables you to make your business more visible, increase awareness and can essentially advertise your goods or services to your targets.
With the recent news of Google introducing encrypted search results, it is even more important to keep monitoring keyword traffic volumes and trends. Google have recently announced they will be launching encrypted search results in the hope of improving user privacy. This step from Google may be improving security but it will make it harder for businesses to track what the organic keyword search was. As granular data, such as bounce rates, will not be available for search queries, ensuring your website and landing pages are as relevant as possible is also now even more critical, to engage customers and in turn provoke a call to action.
Establishing your choice of keywords is important when optimising your website for search engines, and should be done by conducting keyword research. As each company has specific needs and different messages to send out, it is important that your keyword use is directly related to your brand or product. Two useful ways of researching, monitoring and measuring keyword use is through Google Insights and the Google Keyword Tool.
Google Insights allows you to enter your choice of keyword, and it displays a trend graph of search traffic over a period of time. This time can be filtered from the last 7 days up to several years ago; however, anything previous to the last 12 months ago may not be that relevant, depending on your industry. You can also filter your findings via countries and categories if needed. Using Google Insights is an efficient way of conducting keyword research in order to monitor patterns and trends.
The Google Keyword Tool displays the amount of global and local monthly searches as well as measures the competition of an entered keyword for paid search. What is extremely useful is it also displays other related results for keywords; this may encourage you to alter your keywords slightly or use ones not first thought of. Using the Google Keyword Tool is a fantastic way of monitoring the amount of people searching for a term; if your chosen keywords are getting the same amount of searches but the traffic to your website is down, or visitors are not converting into sales, it may be time to repurpose your website content.
On site optimisation is a relevant and necessary technique when considering SEO. Making sure your landing page displays enough relevant information on your brand or products helps to ensure the searcher stays on your page, or site, and hopefully your messages will result in a sale. For example, if your website is selling shoes, incorporating more detailed information on your ‘blue shoes' landing page about your ‘blue shoes' range as well as a variety of other products, such as ‘red shoes' or ‘platform shoes' will help to keep your audience engaged. An excellent landing page is important in the process of SEO and it needs to instigate action to create a transaction. Ways of ensuring your page is used to its full potential includes incorporating this into your keyword rich text, use an interesting style of writing and eye catching images. Ranking highly on search engine pages is one of the most important ways to gain online visibility and traffic to your website. However, without the right keywords for your business, the ones with enough people searching for them or the ones that are currently on trend, you might not gain the traffic you hoped for. After this hard work, producing a good landing page encourages users to stay on your website and not stray after they see you can offer them exactly what they need.
