Leveraging Video Surveillance and Security for Customer Benefit
Everybody knows that video surveillance or digital video security systems have a place in retail, but they're typically used to simply monitor merchandise to prevent shoplifting and other theft schemes. They're also used to identify burglars and other types of scams in the store. These are all reactive uses, meant to help reduce the negative impacts of criminal behavior.
How can your video system be used to positively modify in-store behavior and results?
Video recordings are often viewed as boring and tedious, but it can be worth your while to spend some time watching your customers, not the criminals, to see how they use your store.
How do they flow through your aisles and displays?
How do they interact with your signage and other marketing messaging, included special displays, sale racks, end caps, etc?
Do they have to zig-zag back and forth to get what they want, or can they follow a logical path that takes them from item to complementary item in a natural and organic way?
It's worth analyzing the way customers use your store so that you can optimize the floorplan and layout of individual items to draw customers smoothly and comfortably through the store.
Cameras also present a different viewpoint from overhead that may allow you to identify obstacles or blind alleys in your store that stifle shoppers in their seach for desirable items.
Take some time to watch your customers and I'll bet you can enhance their experience, and yours!
